Super User fishfordollars Posted January 13, 2009 Super User Posted January 13, 2009 Well since oil has fallen over a hundred dollars a barrell since last year shouldn't the price of a gallon of gas be under a dollar? LOL. Guess it's time for our friend the government to tack on another round of taxes to each gallon to cover the shortfall. Look for them to hit us with another .10 to .20 cent increase to help with our road building fund. Or the general fund...or any other fund they want to have at their disposal. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted January 13, 2009 Super User Posted January 13, 2009 I heard the other day that some in Washington want to raise fed tax on gas and diesel by 50%. Any truth to that? Quote

If the tax was .20 a gallon and they increase it by 50% (another .10) wouldn't that be better than another .50? :-/ I thought someone said here that the tax was suggested for the hybrid owners because they weren't giving their fair share? All I know is that gas can go up .25 in a day or two, but takes a month or two to fall half that much. > Quote

My brother and I were talking about this the other day. He stated that gas taxes in Texas were probably already almost a dollar a gallon, therefore gas won't go under $1 a gallon (in order for the sellers to maintain a profit margin). I guess expecting less than a dollar a gallon gas in this day and time is a bit much anyway (but it would be nice). Quote

Federal taxes are 18.4 cents a gallon. http://www.gaspricewatch.com/usgastaxes.asp Quote

Super User Tin Posted January 13, 2009 Super User Posted January 13, 2009 Before 2 months ago I never paid under $2 a gallon for gas. So as long as it is under or around $2 I can handle it. Just very happy the $75-100 a day riding-around prefishing days are over for a little while. Quote

Super User Muddy Posted January 14, 2009 Super User Posted January 14, 2009 Once again we were lied to. The congressional committee overseeing the spike in oil prices last year uncovered, but in the end did nothing to stop these items in their findings 1. As much as 58 dollars cost a barrel was due to speculation, by hedge fund guys, despite what their own expert testified in front of congress. 2. The price of oil should have been going down, as in reality there was a glut, there never really was the amount of pressure put on supply by China, YET 3. The executives driving this speculation; WERE BY ENLARGE ALL EX ENRON GUYS, who did the same thing out West with Electrical rates. Source: 60 minutes had a piece, so not believing them completely, I went to Cspan and newpaper accounts of what they ere siting , and they were right! Getting Bankers, traders and other rich guys, to watch rich guys is like getting Al Capone to head the Organized Crime Task Force. These guys can not be trusted to watch themselves. ps My take on price: Now they will bring it back up to 50 cents a gallon over last summer, but 1.25 less then when we were paying over 4.30 a gallon and mos tpeople will think they are getting a bargin. Super User cart7t Posted January 14, 2009 Super User Posted January 14, 2009 Gas drops to a low, low price and the stations around here jacked the prices yesterday to around $1.69. : Quote

fishingfourfun Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 What is causing the price of gas to go up in Virginia if the price of oil is dropping? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 15, 2009 Super User Posted January 15, 2009 $35.60 this morning. We are being ripped-off at the pump! > Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 RW, On the price of oil say today how long would it take that price to reflect at the pump? Month? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 15, 2009 Super User Posted January 15, 2009 We had a short-lived bump over $40 when the January contract expired. There hasn't been a reason for gasoline at the pump to go up! It should be near recent lows, not up 30-40 cents. $35.31 right now. > Quote
Super User Muddy Posted January 15, 2009 Super User Posted January 15, 2009 If the price of a barrel of oil goes up lets say 2:pm EST the price at the pump goes up at 1;59pm If the price of a barrel of oil goes down Jan.1,1009 , the price of a gallon of gas should go down by Easter! The price of oil seems to have very little to do with reality anymore. And the experts either are so dumb they keep getting tricked or they are part of the club that feeds us lies. It is time to stop asking the experts because we all know that the fox's can't be trusted to watch the chickens Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Is there a standard coorilation between oil to gas price. I know there is alot of variables but say 30per bbls is typically 1.25? Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 It is time to stop asking the experts because we all know that the fox's can't be trusted to watch the chickens This is why I agree with Roadwarriors comment on it is time to be pushing alternative fuels even harder before the goughing starts again. That way we dont shoot ourselves in the foot again. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted January 15, 2009 Super User Posted January 15, 2009 I agree, but what do we do if Exxon or Sunoco own the alternative fuels? The Enron crew did the same thing in the Oil Rings that they did out West with Electrical Energy, whats to stop big energy conglomerates from messing , in unfair ways with the supply and cost of alternative fuels. We need new players in this market. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 The sorry gougers jacked ours up by 7 cents the last couple of days. We're back up to $1.69 a gallon (at its cheapest, $1.79 at others). > Quote
