frogtog Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 What kind of property taxes do you guys have to pay? Ours are .96 per 100 and they just did a revaluation of everyone's property and raised it 32%. On top of that we have the third highest unemployment in the state ( 11% ) of course 10% of them wouldn't work anyway. : Quote
Super User burleytog Posted January 14, 2009 Super User Posted January 14, 2009 $0.57/100 Just got a reassessment notice. I'd love to see the county try to sell my place for what they've assessed it at. : Quote
Pond Hopper Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 .52/100, if they knew all of the renovations I have done they would be much higher! Quote
Super User burleytog Posted January 14, 2009 Super User Posted January 14, 2009 .52/100, if they knew all of the renovations I have done they would be much higher! That's what I don't understand about my reassessment. I didn't speak to any assessors, haven't done a thing to the house. I guess they think I can afford more since I've got two boats and a camper in the yard. Quote

atx_newbie Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 It depends a lot on where you live, obviously. In Texas, for instance, property taxes are really high, but there is no state income tax. So it probably just comes out in the wash... Your tax rate does seem huge though. If you want to do some investigating, almost every county/parish in the country has a website for their tax assessor. The website will have search function that you can use to look up any property and see the assessed value of other properties. For example: http://www.bossierparishassessor.org/cgi-bin/pro_search.pl That's the tax assessor for Bossier Parish, Louisiana, where I grew up. Spent a lot of time on that site back in my days as a Realtor. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted January 14, 2009 Super User Posted January 14, 2009 I don't mind paying property taxes. It's personal property tax that burns my butt everytime I pay it each year. Given I paid a sales tax on the item when I purchased it, to charge me a yearly tax for owning a boat trailer or a car is nothing more than a government money grab. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted January 14, 2009 Super User Posted January 14, 2009 I don't know what the rate is, but I know our property taxes are a little over $2500.00 annually. And that's for waterfront property. Falcon Quote
rondef Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Mine is $1.03 and it is scheduled for an increase this year again. Quote
TheBeast Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 $0.57/1000 Just got a reassessment notice. I'd love to see the county try to sell my place for what they've assessed it at. : I got the same notice but was surprised at what I saw. My assessment went down on a brand new house. I wonder if the new natural gas well in the woods about 100 yards away had anything to do with it. It can't make the property anymore valuable since noone around here can get natural gas in their homes as a utility, if you have it you have a tank. Quote
tyrius. Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 assessed value 100,000 mil rate x .016 ______ annual taxes 1,600 X about 5 here. Fun stuff!!! I don't know what the actual rate is, but my bill is HUGE. Quote

Well it stated property taxes(We get billed that way), but either way I get hammered. Ours is seperated and we get a bill from each with a seperate tax rate including a MUD tax that is outragous. Super User Long Mike Posted January 15, 2009 Super User Posted January 15, 2009 Brent, are you saying that you have to PAY property taxes? I would think that the state of Texas would pay YOU, just for choosing to live there. ;D ;D ;D Quote
