bass wrangler569 Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I was at a local lake yesterday throwing buzzfrogs over some grass and I was getting a ton of blowups but I couldn't hook anything. I had around 20 blowups and I didn't hook a single fish. I was even missing fish that hit it in open water! I know that ribbits, buzzfrogs, cane toads etc. tend to have a lower hookup percentage than other baits but I usually can hook atleast 50-70% of the fish that blowup on them. Are there any rigging or other tips that could increase my hookup percentage. I'm using 50lb powerpro braid and a MH rod if that helps. Quote
BassinBoy Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Maby they just were not getting it. You shouldve tried a different color. I also have days like this where they just are not inhaling it. Make sure you wait a few seconds before you set the hook, that is the most important part. Quote
Cory20 Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Fish seem to hold on to ribbits when they get them. Did you get any return customers after they missed? Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 10, 2008 Super User Posted June 10, 2008 As with any top water bait wait until you feel the weight of the bass and then set hook Cory nailed it; any time I have a blowup on top water and the miss it I drop my rod on the deck immediately following up with Texas Rigged Plastic. senko_77 Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Sounds like you already have the answers you need. Some days the fish seem to strike at the bait violently rather than eating it. When this happens, throw a follow up bait, and then go through the area with a fluke. They will strike the fluke, but they have a few extra seconds to key in on it solidly. Good luck Quote
