He issued a challange to me, I accepted and he left.

That's the last I heard from him.

You mentioned it so now you gotta tell us.  What was the challenge?

He's at home with the wife today and is doing fine. ;)

Good to hear, I miss his posts.

I miss him, too.

Always enjoyed his posts and pics.

He has made me want to go to Florida and fish the Stick Marsh.

Please pass on my "Happy New Year" to him and his family for me.

Thanks.  :)

But the challenge doesn't start until Jan 31st,  and his last post was over a month later.

Methinks he's taking time off for the holidays.  Pretty common around here, really, as Nov-Dec are the slowest months of the year in terms of traffic.

I was doing a google search and came across a old post of his and his profile said "ex member". :'(

That was his old profile that he deleted.  He since came back on under a new profile.

I've since removed the ability for members to delete their own profiles to avoid such confusion.

So the difference now is that we all get to wonder where certain people are. (and post about it)

I liked the "ex-member" thing and while were are on it, I also miss the "banned" titles... both were clear, both were honest and neither left room for speculation.

Yes, I know 2 or 3 people out of 18,000 accidentally deleted themselves, but it was easy enough to come back when they decided to call the deletion accidental. ;D (no offense intended)

the software glitches are a different story.

Glenn I don't know if your open to suggestions or not, but I totally agree with Flech on this one.  Its frustrating if you want to get in touch with someone, but not sure if they are still actively coming to the site.

Plus, it doesn't seem right that someone can't delete their own profile.  We have several members that are sponsered.  I would think that if anything is ever going on that they think their sponsors view as negative they should be able to delete their profile.

If you want to know whether or not a member is active, just click on his profile. You can see the last time they visited.

I have other reasons for removing the delete button.  It's not coming back.  Sorry.

I would think that if they were sponsored and advertised that notion here, they would then behave as a representative of that company, and act appropriately.

I don't know according to the nuns back in grammar school self-deletion could lead to blindness

I almost deleted myself once. Then it dawned on me that I wouldn't be here to hit the 'undo' button. That was a close one.  ;)

I have other reasons for removing the delete button. It's not coming back. Sorry.

I think I need to clarify my "other reasons", so here they are:

In the past, people have deleted their profiles in order to "make a statement" and disrupt the forums.

From an admin and moderator perspective, that's a big headache, as now we are forced to explain/defend our actions because inevidently, it boils down to "Why did/didn't you guys do anything to prevent this?"

This leads to the second reason: it reduces the moral of the membership as people "take sides" and bicker amongst themselves regarding the merits of the ex-member's actions. Sometimes additional members quit and delete themselves to show support for the ex-member, or simply because they, too, want their share of the spotlight.

All the while, the ex-member is smiling... happy that he was able to screw BassResource.com as his final act.

The reality is,  in the big picture, the effect is temporary and has little impact on the growth of the site.  In addition, whatever was the origin of the original problem has been lost and not addressed due to all the drama that followed.  But the short-term problems cause havoc.

To me, it's a bunch of adults acting like spoiled children.  If anyone ever has a problem with this site, with other members, or just has a concern, the mods and I have always had an open door policy.  We'd much rather listen to, and respond to concerns and issues rather than learn about them when somebody pulls such a prank.

For these reasons, and these reasons alone, I have permanently removed the "delete user" button from the profiles.

Hope that makes sense.

Glenn; I hope you do not mind me jumping in here. I was guilty of leaving here and deleting myself, to make a statement.

I was fueled by my own pig headed personal feelings and a couple of lies fed to me, and then I stuck my nose where it did not belong.

I was wrong, it was disruptive and I permanatly ruined some friendships. I put the whole administration in a bad place, I acted like a complete drama queen , first class a##h##e. I was so out of line I should have been permanently banned from here, it was not the first time my arrogance and anger caused trouble here.

Road warrior got in touch with me, and he helped me get things right, the 2 folks I hurt most Glenn and LBH, graciously forgave me and I was welcomed back,

Getting rid of the deleted member button was a good idea, as others in a moment of nuttiness have done it only to come back AND THEY WERE ACCEPTED BACK

I appreciate your candor, Muddy.  Just understand I was not calling anyone out, implying anything at all about Avid, or dredging up past events.

I simply wanted to provide an explanation as to why I removed the feature, rather than leave it up to interpretation.  I, too, have learned from my past mistakes.  ::)

Your too much of a stand up guy to do that. It was up to me to take ownership of the crap that played into all of that. You should not left to be the one to explain , what I was part of. I said what I had to , it has not been said in open forum, now I can bury it in the past.
