So are any of you guys into pink floyd? Over the past 6 months i've become more or less obsessed with pink floyd. I had liked them okay for a couple years and I had a couple of the more popular cds (Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, etc) but I received Animals and Atom Heart Mother from a friend a few months ago and I was blown away. I now own all the cds and they're all amazing. What surprised me most is that I actually like the obscure and psychedelic albums like Piper at the Gates of Dawn and A Saucerful of Secrets. Any other floyd fans here?

Where the term "acid rock" came from. I swear after seeing the Wall in the 80's after stepping out of movie theater the full moon was one huge disco ball :D David Gilmour has some good solo stuff also.

Huge fan here, although it is slightly less enjoyable since my substance abuse days are over ;D

Have seen The Wall movie more times than I can count. You gotta love "The Trial" and "Comfortably Numb".

Animals is still my favorite,or the live side of Ummagumma.

ABSOLUTELY 100% FALSE. Acid Rock comes out of the San Francisco/Oakland Area in the mid to late 1960's. Starting with the Jefferson Airplane and Grateful dead, LSD laced free concerts and extended solos, and continuing through the Fill More West and Bill Graham's light show backdrops for such bands as Steppenwolf and It's a Beautiful Day. THE ENGLISH HAVE MADE THEIR MUSICAL LIVING COPYING THINGS STARTED IN AMERICA

I love Pink Floyd CD's they make great Frizbees in high wind situations!

I love some of their music, and I can't stand some of it. I'm sure if I dropped a few tabs I'd love the stuff that doesn't make any sense to me though.

Agreed.  I really like "Dark Side of the Moon" and most of "The Wall" (I still have the albums), but wasn't crazy about some of the music that followed.  I think one of the prettiest acoustic arrangements is "Mother" on "The Wall", even though the lyrics are satirical.  Leave it to them to include the line, "Mother do you think they'll try to break my balls." in there.  Crazy stuff.

I'm a big fan of Pink Floyd... never saw them as Pink Floyd, but did see Roger Waters several years ago at an outdoor amphitheater in St. Louis. A great show! Also saw the cover band Australian Pink Floyd at the Fox Theater a couple years ago, one of those grand old theaters built in the 20's (http://www.fabulousfox.com/history.aspx.) They put on an outstanding show that evening.

I think "Animals" was their last good record. I just never got into The Wall.

Most of their work up to and including Animals was killer.

"Shine on you crazy diamond" is my all time favorite Floyd song.

If I hear "Comfortably numb" one more time, I will take an axe to somebody and not be careful about it. :)

Die-hard fan since early '72! One of my daughter's got the 40th anniversary set of "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" for me last Christmas. I returned the favor with the 2 CD "Pulse" to her for Christmas this year! She married a PF fan also ;).

BTW I still have my copy of "Dark Side of the Moon" from when it first came out. Still has the poster of the 3 pyramids and the 2 PF stickers inside

Would be really hard to choose a favorite "you target of far away laughter"

Time

(Mason, Waters, Wright, Gilmour)

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day

You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.

Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town

Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.

You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.

No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

;D To think how many hours I wasted and frittered away stoned on a couch listening to them telling me NOT to fritter away time.

Good words for all youth (or anyone) to live by BTW.

Darkside of the Moon was an absolute sonic masterpiece when it came out in '73. The music world was kinda taken by surprise. It's a must have in your record.... er uh, CD collection. As for the band itself and it's music? IMO, They spent too much time lamenting over Syd Barretts mental meltdown which tended to permeate many of their albums.

Lord knows I've had some issues with "Dancing on the Ragged Edge" so maybe it colored my tastes too much. At the age the band members were when that happened, can't see how it wouldn't permeate their music. I remember most folks at that age thinking that if not immortal at least they were invincible :-/...

My eleven year old grandson now has my "Dark Side Of The Moon" album. He's been playing guitar for three years, and he loves Pink Floyd.
