Super User Sam Posted January 2, 2009 Super User Posted January 2, 2009 Right now, in the first quarter, Cinncy looks good. The Honkies do not. How about dem Tigers????? ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 2, 2009 Super User Posted January 2, 2009 drmnbig, The Honkies open 2009 with the University of Alabama in Atlanta. Remember, Clepson opened with Bama this year and see what happened to Clepson. Honkies will be 0-1 to start the season. Hey, it could be worse. The Honkies could play LSU again. ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted January 2, 2009 Super User Posted January 2, 2009 What's a hokie? Nothing more than a word picked out to rhyme in one of their cheers. Now that's original. I still don't know what it is. Hey VT...It's friggin Cincy. Who? Quote
drmnbig Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 So far so good! Boy, sure sounds like a lot of *** and worry on here. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted January 2, 2009 Super User Posted January 2, 2009 So far so good! Boy, sure sounds like a lot of *** and worry on here. VT should worry. They will be out of the BCS championship picture after game one in Atlanta next year. Roll Tide! Quote
Super User burleytog Posted January 2, 2009 Super User Posted January 2, 2009 So far so good! Boy, sure sounds like a lot of *** and worry on here. ***? Who would be envious of a team that couldn't even sell 30% of their ticket allotment to a BCS bowl game? Quote
drmnbig Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 Bring on the Tide next year! We'll be waiting. Where is East Carolina now? Quote
daviscw Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Bring on the Tide next year! We'll be waiting. Where is East Carolina now? I don't much care, I'm a Wake Forest fan. We got our W. Quote
drmnbig Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 In all seriousness the Hokies haven't looked very good this year till the end. They look pretty doggone good tonight too! Quote

Super User Root beer Posted January 2, 2009 Super User Posted January 2, 2009 Bring on the Tide next year! We'll be waiting. We'll be waiting! Your coming to the DEEP south, son. You sure you want try to cover Julio Jone? Beamer ball isn't going to work! We got Arena returning our punts. My only concern for next year is the quarterback position...either Greg McElroy (who broke Chase Daniels record at south carrol) or the highly touted Star Jackson. The both should be able to pass more consistently then JPW. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted January 2, 2009 Super User Posted January 2, 2009 You remember the scene in 'A Christmas Story' when Ralphie is beating the crap out of Scott Farkus with the stream of obscenities coming out of his mouth? That was me on Weds night You guys played a heck of a game -- but I want a rematch next year Quote
1inStripes Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Im a big Paul Johnson fan, but he wont win too many bowl games at GT unless they play early in the bowl season. I think he will win the ACC a time or two, but its tough to play top quality competition and give their D a month to learn their assignments for the triple option. Quote

Remember, after the first two losses Tech was counted out and there are a lot of folks with egg on their face now that they have won the Orange Bowl. Now I just get to set back and watch my Giants win the superbowl. ;D That's a whole new thread though. lol Quote
Super User 5bass Posted January 2, 2009 Super User Posted January 2, 2009 drmnbig, I'm in Roanoke and also a VT fan. After many, many years of being let down by the Hokies, I've learned to be realistic about them. They won't can't win a National Championship with Stinespring as O Coordinator, it just won't happen. Until they get an OC that can effectively move the ball down the field against anybody they play, they'll be the same old team. Great D, below average offense. They love to get a small lead and sit on it. They need someone who knows how to finish a team off. Close the door when they get the chance. Stinespring doesn't do that and suddenly sitting on that small lead comes back to bite 'em in the @.$.$. It was refreshing though to see them come out on top in a BCS game, cause it dont happen very often. The offense looked a lot better (they were less predictable for once) and the D played like they always do. And don't expect to get too much ACC love in these threads, there's way too many SEC 'homers' on here. Quote

Super User Chris at Tech Posted January 2, 2009 Super User Posted January 2, 2009 Im a big Paul Johnson fan, but he wont win too many bowl games at GT unless they play early in the bowl season. I think he will win the ACC a time or two, but its tough to play top quality competition and give their D a month to learn their assignments for the triple option. LSU played a great game, but our offensive execution wasn't terribly sharp, and our line play was horrendous. Adding both of those up doesn't bode well, especially against a team with as much talent as LSU. They're not 35 points better than us, even if we play again now or in a month. Johnson has only implemented about half his offense (GT WILL pass more next year), so anyone who thinks they have a gameplan to stop GT in upcoming years just based on what LSU did is in for a surprise. I'm looking forward to our 16 returning starters to getting another spring of Coach Johnson's teaching, and the first crop of Johnson's recruits. Good times are ahead Quote
