My brother-in-law left this morning. Thank you, Jesus! He left for Biloxi, MS to hit the casinos before going back to Louisville later on this week.

I love the guy, but he had been here since Christmas Eve and all he wanted to do was sit on the couch, drink beer, and watch game shows and other daytime-type television. Oh, and smoke. I wouldn't let him smoke in the house but I may as well have let him since he carried that nasty funk on his clothes. Speaking of stink, I finally had to ask him to go wash off some of his aftershave since it was making everyone in the house gag.

I had four days off and the weather was gorgeous. I tried to get Sluggo to go fishing with me, but he wouldn't get his humongous butt off the couch. SWMBO said that if I took off and went fishing and left her alone with him that I had better sleep with one eye open that night.

I did get him into the truck and took him to the St. Mark's Wildlife Refuge to check out the alligators, but he wouldn't walk more than about 100 feet from the truck once we got there. I finally got disgusted with him and took him to a biker bar and made him buy me lunch.

It blows my mind how people can smoke in their own home. I gotta tell you, I hate being around smokers. The smoke gets in my eyes under my contacts and the smell nauseates me. I don't have a problem with people who smoke, just don't do it around me.

Fortunately, the few people I know who do smoke don't do it around me, or more importantly, around the baby. My brother and his wife smoke around their kids and it shocks me that people would still do that.

I used to smoke and my friends still do. I don't like it when they smoke inside the house or in the car, especially when I am beside them. It stinks, and your clothes smell bad.

That doesn't bother me.

But when there's a kid in the backseat is a different story.

One of the ushers at church almost always has a pew to himself because he stinks of cigarettes so badly that no one will sit anywhere close to him.  He's a great guy, but he really stinks and he doesn't believe us when we tell him.

You can pick your nose, you can pick your friends.  You can't pick your family.   ;D One of my bro-in-laws is frequently sleeping on my coach when he comes over for family function.  Chews snuff, too, always spits in cups and leaves it around.  >:(

Why?  My parents smoked in the house, my sister and I are no worse for the wear.

My mother did too. It's been proven that second hand smoke is terrible for people. I can't imagine subjecting my son to that stuff. It's essentially poison in vapor form.

My dad retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company after over 35 years of service. He smoked around me, my sister, and my mom in our house and in cars. I think we all turned out fine.

I hate when people put down the tobacco industry, but that's another story for another day...

Sorry.  COUCH.  Got in a hurry.  In the 20 years I've been married to his sister, we've been invited to his house, once, for dinner.  He NEVER misses a free meal here!

Sounds like he is in very poor health.

Keep this trip as a memory of him for what you have told us I don't think he will be with you next Christmas.

And you may want to do him a favor and have him update his will.  ;)

Our former organist at church would sneak out between songs to smoke; talk about tacky, and the scent would follow him in as well.  After being warned several times, he had to find a new venue.
