Burley: Congrats to you all all the Cub's faithful. your year has arrived 8-)

By Sept. 26>. Phillies clinch first in NL east and the Brew Crew overtakes the Mets in the Wild Card Race. Shoenweis and Martyinez and Heilman should get the boot on closing day, maybe sooner

Manny can hit, no doubt. He's doing great in LA.

If Manny ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

I am a die hard Red Sox fan. I support my team from good times and bad. However to see what Manny did when he was here to now hitting the ball like no tomorrow out in Dodger land. Makes me despise him all the more. He is a cry baby bum that if he doesnt get his way will quit on anybody. He doesnt care whats best for his team, teammates, or anyone else other than him and his bank account.

PS What is the only National League Team never to get to the series?

Hint; Look out your window

If you're talking to the baseball genius, the Astros played (and lost) in the World Series in 2005.

The only NL team to never make the WS is the Washington Nationals/Montreal Expos.

Yep. I went to EVERY home playoff game that year (2005) except game 3 of the World Series. We lost game 4 o course but i talked to Burlehere (spelling?) and a few other pitchers from their bullpen.

How many other stadiums were open that night?? Almost half!!! me and some friends were listening to it on a radio, the night Zambrono no hit us, our 'home crowd' was going NUTS!! All I'm saying is they could have picked a netrual location.

Congrats by the way on the Cubs!!!

The games needed to be played without threat of a rainout.  That means a domed stadium.  Milwaukee was the logical choice.

Selig responds to Astros fallout

Commissioner Bud Selig addressed Major League Baseball's decision to move the Astros-Cubs series to Milwaukee last Sunday in a full-page ad in Sunday's edition of the Chronicle.

Read the ad below:

Dear Fans,

On behalf of Major League Baseball, I want to express my profound sorrow to those of you who suffered through the devastation brought by Hurricane Ike. It was a horrific storm and all of us at Major League Baseball are aware of the enormity of it and the destruction and displacement that it caused. While it is insignificant in comparison to the havoc that was taking place in Southeast Texas, the storm also created a scheduling dilemma for Major League Baseball.

I am well aware that many fans of the Houston Astros thought it unfair that we moved two of the three games of the Houston - Chicago series to Milwaukee. I understand your unhappiness and frustration and I regret that such a decision had to be made. Our first obligation is to the health and welfare of our fans and players, and our second is to complete the Major League schedule, which is no easy task when you consider Houston had to play the remaining 15 games in the final16 days of the season. Also, we were faced with a complex set of scheduling rules as well as the involvement of several different constituencies.

We carefully analyzed all of our options. For three days, we were in constant contact with three different weather services and ultimately came to the conclusion that the only viable option was to move two games to a stadium with a dome where the games were guranteed to be played. That decision led us to Milwaukee. While we had an obligation to play all three games, we held the last one back to be played in Houston after the end of the regular season, on Monday, September 29th, should it be necessary to determine Postseason play.

Throughout our discussions with the weather experts over the three-day period, we learned there were serious weather concerns in other cities with available outdoor ball parks and were advised by the experts not to reschedule the games at those sites. Complicating the matter was the fact that the domed stadiums in Minnesota, Phoenix and the Tampa Bay area were unavailable due to previous scheduling conflicts. Also, we did not think it was fair to play games on the West Coast, given the fact Houston would have had to travel across country to Miami to begin a series there the following Tuesday. The only option that remained was Milwaukee.

In making the decision to play there, I recognized the advantage the Cubs would have in playing in such close proximity to Chicago and had there been a better option, I would have taken it. All of us involved in the decision regret the frustration the Astros and their fans felt about playing two games in Milwaukee.

As Commissioner, my job is to balance many competing needs, while also finishing the season on time so the Postseason can begin as scheduled. Hurricane Ike disrupted many things, including the baseball schedule and I regret its impact on Astros fans. I have heard your complaints and I understand the impact this storm has had on the lives of Texans and Houston-area residents in particular.

Sincerely,

Allan H. (Bud) Selig

Commissioner of Baseball

Wow Dom, all the Cubs needed tonight was their pitcher. ;D

5 RBI for Marsuck in 5 innings.

I am not surprised Burley, a Grand Salami to a pitcher, kinnda put the icing on thier season I would say. I have been posting for the last month that CHOKE II THE SEQUEL was coming and here we are. Martinez,Shoenwei s and Heilman should be the first victims and if the Mets front office had any onions they would have Minya driving the vechile that takes them out of town.

Three years ago the baseball genius shows up and dismantles the argueably best bull pen in baseball to bring in a group of overpaid, under acheiving aging stars that he was friendly with. Now at least he will have a lot of friends to watch the post season with

On another note: The Cubs have SWAGGER in thier Strut. I saw it in the Late 60's with the Cards, the Big Red Machine, We Are Family Pirates, the late 70's Dodgers and the best Mets team of all times the 86 Met's. The Cubs are playing and acting like a team with a Series ring in focus, Lou Pinella is just the mananger ( MNGR of the Year I hope) to keep them that way, as he experienced that swagger with the Yankees.

Lou learned first hand from 2 of the best ; Martin and Fowler how to run a pitching staff in a short series. He also knows that is was extremely important to play NY hard and they did.The compettion this off season will be hard and they have the ability to run the table

Lou made the statement it was important to play Milwakee and NY hard: VERY SMART BASEBALL. What better way to keep a team, now getting hot again, peaked for the playoffs and world series. He has 2 series against quality teams and he has to keep his team sharp and agressive.

I'm not liking the Angels/Sox match up.  We're 1-8 against them this year.

*sigh*

I'm trying to stay optimistic here, but LA has our number.  It's do or die time.  LA might be the best team in the Majors.

If I remember correctly, I think we have their number in the post season. Don't sweat it.

Either way, it's going to be a rough path to the WS this year.  If we make it, I might fly up to RI for a little P-A-R-T-Y! ;D

As much as I love the Sox, they have a brutal road ahead and unless they have a horse-show lodged up there it isn't happening. But who knows. I really think the Cubbies are going to do it this year.

Watching the game..................3-0 in the 8th. Still hoping for a miracle!

Muddy, your mets had the bases jucied in the 9th but couldn't do nothin. Go cubbies!!

I hear you loud and clear.  LA and Tampa will be tough to beat, but it may not matter who goes to the WS for the AL.  The Chubbies are awfully good.  BUT, we do have the baseball gods on our side, so anything is possible.  This is why I love October.

On a side note, I just sold my Cardinals/Reds tickets for this weekend.  I can't justify spending money to watch two terrible teams suck it up on the field.

That obvious eh? ;) I was at Miller Park for the Brewer game Wed night, and I think I was watching the scoreboard more than the game on the field, and the cute brunette two rows away.

Watching CC pitch was a real treat. Eleven K's in seven innings. He was throwing a lot of off-speed stuff ( he's on three days rest for the second straight game, and will pitch again this weekend), but struck quite a few batters out with some well placed heaters. You know your pitcher is throwing a ton off off-speed stuff when his change-up is a 96mph fastball.

I saw him once last season as an Indian @ Miller Park. Cleveland was getting a buttload of rain in April, so they moved a series to Milwaukee. All seats were $10. Last night was my first, and probably last, chance to see him pitch in the good land. I can't afford those October tix, just bought a new LTA.

It's not over yet.  Heck, the Mets wouldn't be tied for first in the wild card if the Crew didn't do some major choking of their own this month.  Still anybody's game....but I like our chances.

Muddy, Im still waiting for the Mets to make the end of season push to be out of the playoffs and first in line for playing golf in October. Oh never mind they are right on schedule.  ;)

How is it possible that you miss the playoffs last year with a huge choke effort then add Johan Santana and are still in choke land? Im glad its your team rather than mine my friend.  :);):)
