key chain bass guy Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Muddy, What are your thoughts on Harry Connick Jr.? I am taking the wife to see him in concert on Sunday night. I believe this is only going to be Christmas music, so I am guessing that there won't be much original content. To be honest I don't know that I could even name one of his songs. I know you have an affinity for New Orleans jazz musicians, so I was just wondering how he rated with you. Thanks. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted December 16, 2008 Super User Posted December 16, 2008 He is excellent at what he does. I wish he would try to move away from the Frank Sinatra imitation, he is great on his own right, I mean really great. There was only one Frank Sinatra and IMHO a song or two acknowledging a mentor should suffice. You and your wife are in for a wonderful show none the less ENJOY and put up a review. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted December 16, 2008 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted December 16, 2008 I know you did not ask me, but, I like him too. I like his Frank and Christmas music the best. His original stuff is, well, is original and a little odd sometimes. Overall he is a great musician and you guys should have a great time. Quote
key chain bass guy Posted December 16, 2008 Author Posted December 16, 2008 Thanks for the input. I am looking forward to it, probably because my wife is so excited. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Quote
key chain bass guy Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 Went to the concert Sunday night, it was fantastic. He did the Christmas songs for a little while then broke into what he called New Orleans style jazz. Wow! He had a guy named Lucian playing the trombone with him, this guy was incredible. Who knew that the trombone could be so cool. Do you know the guy? Quote
Super User Muddy Posted December 23, 2008 Super User Posted December 23, 2008 Glad you liked him, seen him several times, never disappointed. If you think that's cool go to You Tube Search for Trombone Shorty The Dirty Dozen Brass Band Rebirth Jazz Band They play traditional New Orleans Marching Band Instruments, but they play it FUNKY! enjoy!!!!!!!!!
