farmpond1 Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Although there won't be any raise for the coming year, my job appears to be secure. When my boss retires in about a half a year, I'm expected to step up. Only problem is, I hate my job now. If I were any less motivated, I'd slip into a coma. Still, it is a job and I feel for those who are losing (or have lost) theirs! Hang in there, ya'll! Quote
Daniel A. Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I hate my job now. If I were any less motivated, I'd slip into a coma. I'm right there with you. I'm grateful I have a job, but as soon as a more fitting opportunity opens up, I'm out of here. Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Went from working full tme painting house and part time dog training, to 2 dog training sessions a week. > While we're in Polk county Florida from the 5th-11th, I plan on spending a few days looking for work. I wish eveyone else who's struggling, better times in the near future Quote
Bass Dude Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 The job situation in the Syracuse area is not very good. I am being "released" some time next year as our company has moved the functions our site does to India because of the cheaper operational costs. My wife lost her job earlier this year, for the same reason. Also, the plant in our area that makes parts for Chrysler has laid off 200 people and are expected to close at some point next year. There doesn't seem to be any new businesses moving to the area any time soon either. My wife and I are moving to Tennessee in hopes the job market is better. :'( Quote
FR0G Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I don't work yet, but my Dad has been off for the past month of so. He is a union plumber. But today he finally went back to work to check out a job. It is just terrible that he didn't have any work around this time of the year. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted December 22, 2008 Super User Posted December 22, 2008 When you move to Chicago, You can open your own business. Get a stand at Wrigley and you can sell Kleenex after the 5th inning of each game, for all the crying fans! :'( You could do that at the new Mets stadium after the 8th! ;D Or the entire month of September. Super User bilgerat Posted December 22, 2008 Super User Posted December 22, 2008 I'm a diesel engine tech - field service. My employer let four shop guys go last week, but for now us road guys are all working. No more of the crazy overtime that usually comes with the job, but I'm thankful to be working period. Quote
