explain to me how having 30 tv's on sale cheap wont create a "mob scene" when you have 300 ppl chomping at the bit. i dont see anyone saying whoever did the clown stomping should get a trophy, just an honorable statement on common sense.

these sales are built up on tv then its a rats race to the finish. enless the store has unlimited goods there should be a system in place to make sure everyone is safe.

common sense says you dont stomp another human to death. common sense should also say you dont create a system where a human can be stomped to death.

Thats exactly how I see it, well said. Their is culpability on both sides' You know the tails side of a quarter is worth 25 cents and the heads side is worth 25 cents, just like both sides of this ugly coin!

you know im with ya Muddy. ugly is ugly.

Hey Matt; Watch It's a Wonderful Life, exhange a few reasonable gifts with some loved ones, remember whose birthday this is, and you can enjoy the spirit of the holiday. We all do not need to be lemmings and follow what the rest of these mooks are doing to this day.

Would anyone here trample, walk over, kick or step on anyone they saw gasping for air, lying on the ground?  I bet not...  so the thought of planning for this is not within the normal realm.  Maybe I'm just naive.

Our zoning here requires all 4 entrances to be open.

You might check that based on the hour of day...  Our WalMarts (all I have ever lived near) always restrict to one entrance during the overnight hours.  I know this because I always park by auto (fishing) and then have to go to the "front" if it's before 6am.  And since they post signs saying what hours they close certain entrances, I would be their are within any ordinances or zoning.

You probably are right for exits and fire exits though.... but they have one way locks so you can't come in by all doors.

The ordinance reads" Between the hours of DELETED MISINFORMATION SEE POST BELOW, entrance and exit , it was the topic of an editorial last year. I agree I would never treat another human in this fashion. Wal Mart is ridiculous for doing this. I have seen 6 Black Friday events and all of them involved the opening of doors and a mob rush. I stood in front of an eldelry woman once so she would not get hurt by the rush

Certainly no one can prepare for a trampling death, but if management were to ( AND THEY DO) witness what happens they would see that sooner or later someone is going to get hurt. In my opinion , to not do something in the way of preventation makes they culpable for something that may happeen

They leave the food shoppers in the store while they close down the general goods section, and they let them leave when shopping. It is so bad that I have seen people "shopping" for food and using walkie talkies with thier partners who are still outside

BTW: I always park by the Auto section to, so I have to go through fishing and sporting goods too 8-)

my mistake, I have just been corrected, THAT IS A PROPOSED CHANGE TO THE ZONING ORDINACE, the ordinance reads that 2 least 2 of the 3 door sets must be opened. The general side closes at midnight to 5am, and then only the grocery sides are opened,

I do not retract my previous statement. It's Walmart's responsibility to ensure the safety of it's customers and employees. If I were a Walmart manager, I would have opened a single door and have made every customer enter, single-file, through a turnstile. I would also have had four security guards in place to pry the big fat women out of the turnstile. In addition, the security guards would be authorized to TASER anyone trying to climb over the big fat women. After the big fat women get through the turnstile, they should be TASERed just for getting in the way. ;D

I'm no Sherlock Holmes, but I'd say Long Mike doesn't like fat women.

I think you have to blame the 'goons' that knocked the doors down.

There wouldn't be so many goons if these retailers would have more than 10 of each of the "DoorBuster" items available.

You're right. Ironic. They even call them "doorbuster deals."

How prophetic.

The goons thought "Door Buster" was used literally. There might not be too many Door Buster phrases advertised in the future.

If you ask me...everybody who got in should have been locked in and arrested.Charged with 1st degree murder.Put that on national news and people(some) would think twice about rushing in like that next year.Should have made a statement out of that situation right there.

I wasn't thinking quite as in depth as that but was wondering how they could even say such a thing.

I have some friends who are going down there to help out with the investigation. They are taking vacation time and then giving the money from the paycheck to the family. It doesn't require any training or specilization, just your time.

Let me know if you want to go, I'll be checking PM's. Transportation, housing, and food are all on you.

This came up in class today.

Someone also mentioned that some guy shot someone because their was one of something left, I'm not sure I believe him entirely

From the lead dective, on a very capable Nassau County Police Dept.

Detective Lt. Michael Fleming, who is in charge of the investigation for the Nassau police, said the store lacked adequate security. He called the scene utter chaos and said the crowd was out of control. As for those who had run over the victim, criminal charges were possible, the lieutenant said. I've heard other people call this an accident, but it is not, he said. Certainly it was a foreseeable act.

. The NY State Police and Nassu County( who have juristiction),as well as the neighboring NYC Police Dept in Queens have a lot of experience with crowd disemination techniques. It all will depend on how the cameras were located, the angles they were at and how clear they can get the images. The interviews are going to be long and tedious.

Then that is more than likely also true for every other store that does the black friday deals.  People wait in line in front of these stores every year across the country and nothing like this has happened yet.  So why would it be foreseeable?  Is it a possibility?  Sure, but that doesn't mean that Wal-Mart (or any other store) is responsible for safeguarding against every possibility.

The responsibility for this crime lies solely on the feet (literally) of those who rushed into the store.
