Super User Muddy Posted December 14, 2008 Super User Posted December 14, 2008 Hey Fellas; what a shame and my team is part of it. I just received Mike Lupica's Shooting from the Lip Sunday Column( best NY Daily News Sport's writer) and he pointed out this. The Luxury Tax( MLB's version of revenue sharing) has a clause in it that if you build a new park you are somehow relieved from paying all of it for a while. So both teams go out and pay for the best free agents out there, and go over limit, and are excused from their tax, widening the gap even more between the small and big market teams, I am not feeling this one :-/ ps; They already have breaks on taxes not to mention taxpayer dollars involved in the construction of both parks. Super User Marty Posted December 15, 2008 Super User Posted December 15, 2008 It certainly warms the cockles of my heart to know that my money (what little is left of it) is helping out the Steinbrenner family. Quote
daviscw Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 And the Yankees can spend $161 million on a pitcher that won't lead them to the world series while people go homeless and hungry on the same street.... Quote
Super User Muddy Posted December 15, 2008 Author Super User Posted December 15, 2008 Hey nobody hates the Yankees more than me, truth be told the Yankees and their team members have always been generous to both the adjoining neighborhood and NYC in general. It's not their fault that some of thier neighbors decide on a daily basis that they need crack or heroine more than food. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted December 15, 2008 Super User Posted December 15, 2008 Don't like it ? Don't support them in any way. Don't watch them on tv or in person. Don't buy their merchandise. What's a pro athlete ever done for you ? Are the Yankees (or any other pro team) gonna help you out when times are tough ? It amazes me when pro teams get their stadiums built with taxpayer dollars and then price their seats out of reach of most people. Talk about p*ssing on the people that got you where you are. Pro sports have gone too far this time. Quote
