Hey guys,

I was wondering if you all could lift a brother up this coming Monday morning as I undergo rotator cuff surgery in my right shoulder.  I'm looking forward to some relief of the pain, but I hear the recovery is VERY painful.  Also, is there any good advice from those of you who have underwent the procedure before?  I AM left-handed, but I use my right just about as much as my left hand.  I'll try to stay in touch the next few days after, but I'll only have one hand to type with.  I guess I'm a little anxious about it all, for I'm not one who likes to ask others for help.  I guess the biggest prayer concern would be for my wife, who will have to put up with me the next few weeks.

Thanks guys,

Stacy

Holy cats Stacy, first your back, now your rotator cuff. Who did you upset?

My wife went through the surgery on both shoulders. She did quite well. After therapy she was as good as new.

You will be in our thoughts and prayers, good luck.

My dad has gone through 2.  The first one was kind of a long drawn out process for him to recover.  The 2nd went significantly better than the first.  The difference was he followed the physical therapist's routine to a "T".  He wanted to kill her with all the stuff he went through ;D ... but he recovered much quicker.

Prayers will be sent.

Friend just had the surgery.

Worst part is holding arm tight against that foam cushing box they give you and while sleeping.

He is almost 100% now and is going to physical therapy.

He injured his casting arm so we are very interested in how he does next year.  :)

Best of luck.  BTW, I've already been praying for your wife.  Don't know how she does it. ;)

I'll keep you in mind and pray for a speedy recovery. I had rotater cuff surgery on my 19th birthday22 yrs ago. I played college baseball, pitcher, and felt my shoulder go out against FAU in the bottom of the 7th. We were down 2-1. I took myself out of the game and we lost by a landslide.

I continued the season, which was coming to a close, and ended up having a STRONG possibility of being drafted by the Blue Jays. I got a bad case of depression after my girlfriend and I broke up 2 moths after surgery and I never went back to baseball or school until years later.

Anyways, the recovery was extremely tense. The pain kept me up many, many nights but I eventually recovered. I still have to sleep on my left side with a pillow under my right arm for comfort.

That was 22 yrs ago and the sports medical field has come a long way since then. My surgery lasted 4 hours and my shoulder was SHOT. I ended up with a screw in my shoulder.

My brother had cuff surgery too but recovered a lot better. His was about 12 years after mine.

Make sure you GO to therapy and don't cut yourself short. And PLEASE be careful of the pain pills. I didn't get hooked but being in law enforcement, I see people getting hooked on oxy's/roxy's at an extremely rapid pace.

I don't mean to sound so negative or to scare ya but I'm just being honest. Several professional athletes have cuff surgery and recover to continue their playing in their sport. Like I said earlier, GO to therapy.

No problem about the honesty.  That's what I was asking for.  From your replies, the therapy sounds really key.  I've never had a problem with pain pills, but I'll be sure and go easy on them.  I've got a pretty high pain tolerance, so hopefully I won't need too much.  I have alot of faith in my God and my doctor, but I also believe that it's good practice to pray for one another.  Thanks for the well wishes and prayers.  The real test will come in the following week when I have to direct our choir in a Christmas program next Sunday night (I let that slip my mind when scheduling the surgery).  The shoulder being operated on is the arm I use to direct them with.

God bless,

Fisher

Speedy recovery Fisher!!

Both my cuffs are shot, the left much worse than the right.  Leftover skiing injuries that I never addressed so I just deal with the pain each time I re-tear one of them.

Good luck Buddy ;)

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife.  I hope you have a speedy recovery.  I am currently recovering from the repair of a torn tendon in my laft hand.  Had the surgery two weeks ago and I am doing physical therapy for the next six weeks.

Prayers sent for a speedy recovery and strength to get you through conducting your Church's program.  Let us know how you are doing.

As others have said, do the therapy and take it easy.

Thanks everyone for your prayers and concerns. They were a little late getting me in for surgery, but I was home by 3pm yesterday. I was able to sleep in my own bed last night and rested well, except for several trips to the bathroom. I'm in a little more pain today, but my wife is doing an excellent job taking care of me. (as she types this letter for me) I am unable to take this sling/immobilizer off until Friday, so it looks like I will be wearing a BIG untucked shirt and warm-ups to school on Thursday. (I'm sure my kids will think that's funny) Again, words cannot express my gratitude to all of you. I will be in touch.

God bless,

Stacy
