Super User cart7t Posted December 6, 2008 Super User Posted December 6, 2008 After seeing the Shimano forum in action, I'm wondering if there wouldn't be a way to create a forum where users of rods and reels could give their reviews of equipment they own? The forum could be brand specific with stickies for Pflueger, ABU, Shimano, Daiwa, etc. Posting would be intended for those that own the reels and are giving their users opinion of their likes and dislikes along with suggestions for changes and for those interested in purchasing. Flames and troll posts would be deleted. Seems like a lot of folks with specific questions about various brands of rods and reels could get their answers quicker browsing the brand specific sticky threads instead of posting a new thread which become rather redundant. It could also be a place where manufacturers interested in feedback from rod or reel owners could be directed to. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted December 6, 2008 Super User Posted December 6, 2008 I posted about this a few weeks ago, didn't seem to be much interest http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1227380354 Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 Sorry Bilge I didn't see yours before. It sounds like a great idea to me. Attn MODS: Come to think of it wouldn't it prevent some of those petty arsed arguments wnen someone asks "what do you think of the Diawa XYZ" and some trout head says "its junk by a Shimano" ?? Maybe it would prevent a lot of that garbage and feuds etc? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted December 7, 2008 Super User Posted December 7, 2008 Run it by the boss-man. Quote
FordNFishinLover Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Sounds like a good idea to me! Id be willing to give me .02$ on different reels and items... Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 I don't think it's needed. Everybody knows that ABU and All-Star are the best... Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 I don't think it's needed. Everybody knows that ABU and All-Star are the best... From what I gather the consensus is Shimano and G-loomis but I own none of the 4 so I don't know Quote
Super User Micro Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 We have a Shimano forum because we have a Shimano rep willing to come here and answer questions. From what I gather, it's not supposed to be a Shimano-worship forum, but rather a forum where you can ask a Shimano rep specific questions. Tackle Tour has a Shimano forum, too, and Bantam answers questions there as well. Tackle Tour was going to have an Abu Garcia forum and an Abu rep was going to be there to answer questions. But that has apparently fallen through and they've taken the forum down. Unless we have a factory rep, I don't see the point in having brand-specific forums. If we could get an Abu tech on the board, that would cover Abu and Pflueger, since both brands are now serviced at the same place at the Pure Fishing HQ in Spirit Lake, Iowa. But it would be a rather empty forum. Abus and Pfluegers don't brake down as much as Shimanos. Quote
skillet Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 "Abus and Pfluegers don't break down as much as Shimanos" Micro Actually, I don't think they could get anybody to own up to repping for either co., let alone going public with it skillet Quote

This isn't so much a forum for questions like: "My Shimano E reel broke again, is this thing a POS or not?" or "My new Shimano Cumara broke again, is this thing a POS or not?" Those would still be answered in the rod and reel forum. This is more a place where those that buy and use specific reels like the STX, New Pflueger President, Daiwa reels, new rod (insert brand here) can give their likes and dislikes. Many, many of the redundant questions posted about specific reels or rods could be answered if they read the posts in the brand specific threads. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Yep I thought a couple of people had kind of misunderstood the original intent of the post. Again I think a review thread by brand would be a great idea and ultimately cut down on bonehead posts. I also think it would be the perfect venue for BassResource.com to "lure" ( sorry for pun) the advertisers to the site after the fact. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 8, 2008 Super User Posted December 8, 2008 Abus and Pfluegers don't brake down as much as Shimanos. ;D ;D Outstanding! When the net's unguarded, take the shot! We will certainly discuss this suggestion, but BassResource.com is not promoting Shimano, they came to us with a very generous offer to answer questions on a timely basis. For that we are grateful. Although I might be a little bias, I had nothing to do with this. 8-) Quote

Couldn't have said it better myself It's not that BR and Shimano are in cahoots, it's just that they were the ones who answered the invitation that has been issued to all the big manufacturers. It costs money to have someone like Bantam answering all our inquiries,...money well spent IMO as you are right there at a grass roots level with the angler, your customer. "Other" manufacturers, a few in particular have STILL yet to see the significance of the online forum communities. : It's odd to me, someone needs to shake the bed and wake them up!! so again, all are invited, but Shimano stepped up. Siebert Outdoors Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I agree with you LBH. Alot of companies are stuck in their old ways. It took me 4 years to get the company I work for to put service stuff on the net. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted December 9, 2008 Super User Posted December 9, 2008 Well.... C'MON all you other manufactuer's reps.... you heard the man, step up to the plate. We know you lurk around on this site while your supposed to be working, turn it into a little more revenue for your company. You just gonna let Shimano push you around like that ? Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted December 9, 2008 Super User Posted December 9, 2008 I can understand why Pflueger would not want to participate. Their products are so reliable that few questions would be asked. It would be a waste of time for their Rep. ;D Quote

It's odd to me, too. I actually sent my views to a specific person at Abu Garcia about this very issue. No response. I think there is a huge benefit to having someone from the company involved at the forum level. Abu could take a lesson from Shimano in that respect. Daiwa I can understand. Few of us understand Japanese. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Note: It's Cart's thread but for the 4th time He didn't ask for Reps!!!!! He asked for tackle reviews by average Joe's who've used the equipment. Pay attention! lol A bunch of people have failed their reading comprehension homework ;D Quote

Yes, and we have Larry Dhalberg, from "Hunt for Big Fish", to thank for it. He made the introduction at ICAST that made this happen. Quote
