HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 I had a Diawa Tierra I was going to sell. BassinSoldier expressed his interest so I decided to surprise him and sent it to his wife in time for Christmas, for free as my way of saying thank you for the sacrifices he has made. At 1st I strugled w/the idea, thinking I coud really use the money. It's obvious I made the right choice! I just recieved an extremely inspiring reply from BassinSoldier which was priceless and out wieghs the monitary value 10 fold! So this gave me an idea,I'm going to try to connect fisherman who might be willing to donate gear to the soldiers. I would like to use BassinSoldier as the connection to out troops. I'm not sure where to start but figured this would be a good 1st step. Here's the reply that inspired this thead; Thanks alot Paul! I sure didn't expect that!!! I was having a pretty crappy day until now. The weather is horrible right now(cold and rainy, iraqi crap mud everywhere) and I was supposed to be off today, but our platoon sargent called everyone up to the company cuz customs was there to inspect our container for redeployment. That really brightened my day hearing bout this. Thanks so much man! This is why I love this forum so much cuz there are so many great folks around here.I'll make sure to get in touch w/ the wife so she knows what to look for. You commin to the road trip 09? kinda far drive for you, but figured I'd ask. Well I better get runnin and thanks again!!! As you can see Joe's reply was worth more then any amount of money! So, if you like to get involved please reply to this thread and we'll get this rolling along. If we can make the same kind of difference in anothr soldiers day we've done our part! Quote

HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted November 30, 2008 Author Posted November 30, 2008 You did a nice thing Bassectomy. Very Cool! Thanks Tom, but it's not me who deserves the thanks, it's our troops. Our troops courage and all the sacrifices they've made, is what allows us to enjoy a sport we are all so passionate about. I've already recieved offers of donations on another site and can only hope it takes off here as well. I'm calling it the "Gear for Guardians". Quote

BassinSoldier Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Hey Paul, I sent you a PM with 2 of the other guys I know of that are on the forum that are over here, one of which is in my unit. BassinSergeant is in my unit(my buddy Bryan), and fishhard (another buddy, Shannon, who is in Afghanistan). I am gonna try to get in touch with MSG_AL and see if he knows anyone else, since he got home not too long ago. I want to thank you Paul for what you're getting started, and I thank this forum as a whole for being the great folks that you all are. I have received packages from Rondef and TheRooster while I have been here, and one of my buddies Roger from the FloridaBassForum has sent me a package as well. This is one more reason why I love our sport...there are so many good people. Thanks again & See ya'll in '09!!! Quote

Now I just deal with a lot of paperwork and inspections not the leading of soldiers they preached about in OCS. The best rank in the Army is Specialist because you are not a Private anymore and you are not in charge of anything . If you need anything else let me know? Allen Quote

If at all possible it would be great to try and reach as many troops as we can,but not sure how to go about it. One of my buddies suggested I contact some of the recruiting stations in our area, and I was also thinking of talking with some of the local politicians in addition to some of the larger sporting good stores. Having a contact like Joe(BassinSoldier) is a good place to start. If people are going to share their generosity, I'd hate to see the packages/donations go unused. I'm guessing not every soldier likes to fish, can't comprehend it myself ;D but I wondering how we could get a list of troops that would be interested and or quite possibly adding other sporting goods to the donations such as footballs, baseball gloves, playing cards etc... If anyone has suggestions or the best avenues to take I'm all ears! Quote

HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 Hey guys, I've been in contact with a few local Senators, recuiting office as well as some of the larger sporting goods chains and waiting to hear back. I've also contacted some of the local newspapers for a possible press release. But before I go any further with the media(not even sure it will happen) but I wanted to check w/the owners/devolopers(lack for appropriate term) of Bassreasource,to see if it would be possible to mention Bassresource, if the article(s) are a go. Thanks again for all the help Quote

Super User Munkin Posted December 2, 2008 Super User Posted December 2, 2008 The recruiters are busy trying to recruit new troops so they have little free time to help? The best place do donate rods or equipment to would be the MWR (Morale Welfare and Recreation) and every base I know of has one? These are the places that soldiers can go to and borrow equipment, etc. If you need the contact info for any of these places I can look it up? FT. Leonard Wood, MO is the one I am most familiar with.
