Super User Muddy Posted December 3, 2008 Super User Posted December 3, 2008 Hey Fellas; I have a 93 S-10, with a standard shift. It is a hydraulic clutch system. The reservoir is a bit low. It says to top it off with SAE 30 fluid, Is thsi the regular SAE 30 Brake Fluid, or is there a special clutch fluid to use. I looked at a can of SAE 30 Brake Fluid and it says to use for cluths also. I know very little in this department. Thanks Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted December 3, 2008 Super User Posted December 3, 2008 i always thought it was good ol dot-3. id see if you can get a bit of the old fuild on a rag and smell it. should be easy to tell brake fluid from something else. Quote
MitchIsFishin Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Muddy, as a former tech, I'll recommend always check the owners manual, if you can. DOT 3 is typically used as the fluid for most (not all) hydraulic clutch systems. Top it off, but by the way, it is a good idea to have it flushed & refilled, just like a brake system. Brake fluid is hygroscopic (absorbs water), so take note. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted December 3, 2008 Author Super User Posted December 3, 2008 Thank you much. It was right there I can use the brake fluid. I would get it flushed . but I am selling it this spring Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted December 4, 2008 Super User Posted December 4, 2008 I surprised you didn't top it off with root beer. ;D Quote
GitRDoneIke23 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Regular dot-3 brake fluid will work. I don't know if they make a 'clutch fluid' or not, but I've always used the brake fluid. Just top it off, and you'll be good to go. -Ike Quote
