tyrius. Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 But again, more refining capacity would be helpful but its not going to happen. Actually, the US adds refining capacity every year. This is typically done by adding on to existing refineries or modernizing the existing equipment to allow for more throughput. Refining capacity has increased from 16.74 million barrells a day 2002 to 17.45 million barrells a day in 2007. Quote

brgbassmaster Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 haha ya i was happy when i saw gas go to 3.49 when i got home from leave back to new mexico. i might have to go fishing twice this month...when i was in michigan it is still 4.29 as of yesterday.. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 16, 2008 Author Super User Posted September 16, 2008 Starting the morning down another couple of bucks @ $91.77 Gasoline is high going through a rough period in the distribution network. We're paying $3.56-$3.89 in Memphis. Once we get past this in a week or two, if oil stays around current levels, gas at the pump will drop a dollar or more. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 16, 2008 Author Super User Posted September 16, 2008 It seems that OPEC may have raised their target pricing to $60 - $80. If oil show signs of dropping below $60 I would expect them to defend their pricing model and reduce production to maintain this range. We still have quite a bit of downside potential with $85 being a near-term target. 8-) Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 It will probably take 3-4 weeks to balance out the oil to gas price wont it? Quote

Siebert Outdoors Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Good signs. Now gas needs to follow. Do you suspect airlines to drop fares? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 16, 2008 Author Super User Posted September 16, 2008 No...The airlines are on the ropes. After working through some form of "restructuring" with Lehman, AIG, Washington Mutual, Thornburg, GM, Ford and Chrysler, we will then have to deal with some form of nationalization of the airline industry. Their situation is hopeless. I don't see lower fares on the horizon regardless of the price for fuel. BTW, Although Fannie and Freddie have fallen out of the headlines, the issues remain OVERWHELMING and are nowhere close to a resolution! Quote
Troutfisher Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I hope those gas prices come down! Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted September 17, 2008 Author Super User Posted September 17, 2008 Oil is currently $92.20, about a dollar higher than yesterday. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 18, 2008 Author Super User Posted September 18, 2008 The turmoil in the financial markets lead to a flight to "hard assets" yesterday. Oil participated in the commodity rally rising to more than $101 in overnight trading. A relative calm has returned to this morning's session with oil trading back down to $97. Although we will continue to see extreme volatility, the trend is still down. 8-) Quote
zellamander Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Gas made a $.40 cent drop here in SE Kansas lastnight. It was $3.79, now is $3.39. Thank God! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 19, 2008 Author Super User Posted September 19, 2008 Well, with all the market turmoil, hard assets (commodities generally) have blown up!
