BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 23, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 23, 2008 There's one glimmer of light.... a team that's so bad, "it's almost freakishly enjoyable." Yes, the Mariners lost over 100 games this year, the Seahawks have gone from dominance to disaster overnight, and the college football teams so bad it took double overtime in a loser-against-loser game yesterday to determine who sucked the worst. The sports scene in the Pacific Northwest is so bad, that nobody cared when the Super Sonics threatened to leave town earlier this year. Rocked by scandles and decades of dismal seasons, Seattle was actually happy to see them leave, rather than pay a ransom....er... more taxes, to meet their demands to build a new arena. Oklahoma was more than happy to welcome them to their city. Why? Nobody really knows....or cares....in Seattle. Apparently Oklahoma thought moving them to a new location and renaming them to the "Thunder" would change things. Oh how niave. The Thunder is the worst team in the NBA. They are 14 games into their new season, and I didn't think anyone cared. Yet they are so awful they have attracted a cult following in the northwest. Which roots for them to lose. It's making this dismal sports year a little more enjoyable in the Pacific Northwest. Here's an editorial on it that sums it up nicely: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/dannywestneat/2008425129_danny23.html Enjoy! Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 You're resorting to humor is actually quite refreshing and inspiring. You find a way to make a smile out of a dire situation. I'm not a big fan of organized sports, glad to see that others can take it for what it's worth. You have redefined the example of a aguy who's glass is half full. Being number one is all that matters, even if it's #1 at sucking the most!! :)e Quote
Super User Muddy Posted November 23, 2008 Super User Posted November 23, 2008 At least they moved them all at once, on this side of the continent Walsh is moving the Knicks ONE AT A TIME!!!!!!!! ;D Quote
Super User Marty Posted November 24, 2008 Super User Posted November 24, 2008 Become a Gonzaga fan, they'll have a winning record. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted November 24, 2008 Super User Posted November 24, 2008 Glenn, for what it's worth, the fans in Oklahoma appear to care about their teams more than the folks in the NE. The Thunder's head coach has already been fired. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 24, 2008 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 24, 2008 It's not worth anything Mike. Check to see how many head coaches the Sonics burned through in the recent past! ;D Quote
Super User Muddy Posted November 24, 2008 Super User Posted November 24, 2008 The Met's have had over 50 third basemen since they started.! Quote

Check to see how many head coaches the Sonics burned through in the recent past! ;D I hear you, but losing teams aren't very well tolerated around here. In addition to OU, OSU, & TU, we have (minor league) professional baseball, hockey and arena football teams. ALL of them consistently have winning seasons. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 24, 2008 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 24, 2008 Well you just keep wishing there Mike. Enjoy the "Blunder"! ;D Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted November 24, 2008 Super User Posted November 24, 2008 OK, Glenn, I'll fess up. I don't follow basketball at all. I really don't care about the (TH)(BL)under. When the NASCAR and college football seasons are over, I figure that I am entering the sports doldrums. The NFL playoffs and the Superbowl fill the gaps, but from that point on there is a great void in my sports enthusiasm. So, if fishing is out and sports watching is out, what am I to do? To begin with, I'm going to learn to program in C. Secondly, I'm going to learn how to build my own lures. When I get tired of using all of the hieroglyphics of C, I will switch to pouring lead into molds. I doubt that I will be bored this winter. Quote

Super User Muddy Posted November 24, 2008 Super User Posted November 24, 2008 Glenn , no matter how bleak the Mariners look they will never break the worst record in baseball 1962 Mets put 120 in the L coloumn! :-/ Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted November 24, 2008 Super User Posted November 24, 2008 Hey Glenn, at least you don't have the Lions.LOL We have competitive teams in Hockey, Basketball, and Baseball. Then we have Bill Ford's team. (our city's sport embarassment) Falcon Quote

You think Mike's a cranky old fart now, just wait for spring. A winter's worth of lead fumes, and a little wrestling with C syntax? I can't wait. Quote
