Still a Bigbuckifan Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I woke up the morning at like 4:45 from a phone call from my mom telling me my church was on fire. So after making a few phone calls and turning on the news I found out it was true. Thank god in only got the fellowship hall and not the sanctuary to. My pastor is already talking of rebuilding, thankfully nobody was hurt. It could have been a lot worse . In the fellowship building was all the stuff for our children church , all or chairs and tables, computers and files and things like that. http://www.wftv.com/news/17871746/detail.html Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 3, 2008 Super User Posted November 3, 2008 I am sure the church has insurance to rebuild. It will be interesting to find out if you all had replacement cost with Increased Cost of Construction included to meet all federal, state and local building codes. And of course, to find out if your limits were up to date to replace the structure and proper to avoid any coinsurance penalties. Keep us posted on the insurance angle. Good luck with the rebuilding. jax Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Hopefully their agent kept them educated about being update. The sad part is a lot of churches (and people) will skimp on their coverage to save a small amount money. In the event of a catastrophy they plan on asking for help from the congegation. I was an insurance agent. I seen this quite a bit. It is a shame really. They save a little money to be a burden to their congregation. I hope your pastor wasn't one of these cheap scape people. The phrase "God will provide" has been abused entirely to much by pastors. Work for what you need and pray for what you want. Working for what you want extends to properly protecting yourself and your congregation. Why you wouldn't insure something at 100% replacement cost is beyond me. Either insure it or don't. 99% someone would cut their limits and then have a claim I would have to listen to them whine about how they didn't know what they were going to do. All it takes is once to be a statistics. Anywho. I'll get off of my rant. I meant to say I'm sorry to hear about your claim. Losses like these can really bring a church together and make them stronger. The media gives them exposure and help bring back people that haven't been coming and brings in new people that want to help out. I hope this turns out to be a good event for your church. Quote
Still a Bigbuckifan Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 My buddy and me went strait to the church after school today to see if there was any thing we could do to help. When we got there they were still spraying down hot spots 12 hours later. On the insurance mater we have full coverage I don't know to what extent but I know we have coverage. The weird thing about the insurance is every time we call to file a clame they say we do not hold a policy. Back in 2004 when we had hurricane damage they did the same thing, and today when we called they said the same thing. Our accountant faxed them the paperwork and then they agreed that we had a policy. Like I said it could have been a lot worse, at least we still have a sanctuary for Sunday service, and nobody was hurt. Also they said it was arson, they had a dog come out that can smell gas and other accelerants and the dog hit on something in the hallway. I just cant understand why someone would set a church on fire. :-/ Quote
llPa1nll Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I came into this thread expecting some type of humor or joke. I however was pretty wrong and I am sorry for loss and glad nobody was hurt... Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 3, 2008 Super User Posted November 3, 2008 Hey Buckeye, Each state his its own "Unfair Claims Act" laws. If your insurance company gives the church any grief you can contact your Bureau of Insruance and file a claim. Payment tripples. Quote
daviscw Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Hopefully y'all can build back bigger and better! Y'all are in my prayers! Quote
guitarkid Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Keep this in mind, in The Bible it says that the people are the church, not the building. Sorry if I got too religeous. -sm Quote

Your all right I have a feeling that this will grow our church closer. Our sevice sunday might have to be held out side becuase we might not be alowed back in the building, and no power. But either way out services will continue. Quote
Still a Bigbuckifan Posted November 4, 2008 Author Posted November 4, 2008 Wow, I just figured it out. Push for the church to save the money on the rebuild, and buy a few vans, and a few 20 ft bassboats. (and maybe some tackle....LOL) Attendence should triple. Then you build a new church with all of the entry fees, er , i mean, tithes. You have no idea how well this would go over. My church is full of outdoors man. If it was up to most of us we would have survice at the weight station. Quote
