I'm moving to Chicago in about 6 weeks, and have a question.  I have a .22 rifle that I've had since I bought it at age 8.  It's registered to me.  Do I have to get any special registrations or licenses to bring it with me to my apartment up there?

This seems to me to be a dumb question, as it's only a .22 rifle, but I know that some cities, especially northern cities, have pretty strict regulations on firearms.  Anybody know?

I am not sure, as I don't live in IL, but think any firearm in IL has to be registered with the State Police.  I would take a look at the IL State Police website, if I were you.

Illinois sucks big time with respect to gun laws.

Chicago sucks even worse.

You're going to need to get an FOID card from the state.  Then you have to also register the gun with the Chicago police.

My advice would be NOT to live in the Chicago city limits and if you can avoid it Cook county as a whole.   ;)

I actually didn't own any guns while living in Chicago.  Chicago is a mess of high crime, even higher taxes (highest in the nation), corrupt gov't, etc, etc.  I moved out to the suburbs and am much happier.

Only gun I now have is a 12 guage shotgun, but I don't have any shells for it.  That was my gun from high school that I used when I went hunting with my dad.  It's got a little bit of sentimental value.   ;)

And finally, this seems to be the perfect reason not to move in with the girlfriend.  I thought I was doing him a favor!!!    ;D

Lol thanks for the replies guys.  I know its certainly not going to be like Texas.  I always laugh when I go to the bank and they have signs on the door reminding patrons not to bring firearms into the bank.

Don't have to worry about that in IL either.  There is no concealed nor open carry in IL.

Well, legal ones that is.    ;)

I think you can carry anything you want on the Southside of Chicago.  ;D
