Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted October 24, 2008 Super User Posted October 24, 2008 Whoever came up with the idea of thin sliced steak, onions and cheese put together on a roll should be king of the world. The lady I sit beside at my job goes to a dentist in Philadelphia. Each time she goes, she comes back with a cheesesteak for me. This time she brought me one from Bocella's and I gotta say....the thing is awesome in every sense of the word. I am not a big Philadelphia fan, but I gotta give them credit for this one LOL Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted October 24, 2008 Super User Posted October 24, 2008 It saddens me to think about cheese steaks knowing that my lunch box contains a turkey sandwich on stale bread(one side is an end piece too) :'( :'( :'( Quote

Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted October 24, 2008 Author Super User Posted October 24, 2008 GENO"S on the South Side of Phillie has the best I ever tasted 8-) Dom, I gotta tell ya....I have had both, and while Geno's Steaks holds an edge with nostalgia, this Bocella's place is head and shoulders above it in the taste department. I do like the Cheez Wiz Geno's uses though. Mighty fine processed cheese product. Good Sheet Quote
BassinWill301 Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 awwww I want one. A cheese steak sounds straight good right about now. Quote
Zel Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 When my wife's uncle comes up to visit from Philadelphia, we have an arrangement. He brings two Leo's cheesesteaks (the best I've ever had), and a slab of hot Philly pretzels. In trade, he gets one Wos-Wit Bacon Dressing, one Wos-Wit Sweet and Sour Salad Dressing and a Gallon Jar of Miller's Hot Bologna. SWEET DEAL! Quote

My friend took a trip up there last year and told me he went to Geno's one day, then the next went right across the street to another steak and cheese place that was supposed to be well know but I can't remember the name. atx_newbie Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 The Chicago italian beef sandwiches are also pretty good. My girlfriend's dad ships them to us down in texas about once a month Quote
Super User Muddy Posted October 25, 2008 Super User Posted October 25, 2008 Chicago Italian Beef is nothing like a Philly Cheese Steak! I played Chicago a couple of time and we had them, there. A Chicago Beef is thinly sliced ROAST BEEF, not steak, It is smotered in it's own jucies, in fact so is the bread. This sandwich is considerably different from a Philly Cheese steak, and I have eaten both, in the towns they come from Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted October 26, 2008 Super User Posted October 26, 2008 BEWARE!!! If your not in Philly or South Jersey, don't bother getting a "Philly style cheesesteak" anywhere else. It just aint the real thing. A big part of it is the rolls we use here. They just don't make them like ours anywhere else. Quote

I'm sure the "Real Deal" is the greatest, but mine are almost "fit to eat". : Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I'm from South Philly, and have eaten Geno's and Pat's about 100 times. Geno's has a slight edge I think... But there are a ton of places that I think beat both of those well known places. There is a place on 9th St in the Italian market that serves them out of a tiny window that kicks ol Geno and ol Pat right in the teeth... Can't remember the name of the place, but follow your nose if you're near 9th and Christian St. Reading Terminal near center city has a few places that are better than the 'big two' as well... Quote
