Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted October 24, 2008 Super User Posted October 24, 2008 To each his own... I had the [real] flu 1 time and after about 6 days of wanting to die, another week to regain my strength and almost 15 lbs of weight loss, I decided I'd get the shot from then on. Even if it only protects me from the prominent strain, my odds are better. That is my EXACT experience and feelings. I don't care if it reduces my risk by 1% ... I am getting the thing. Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted October 24, 2008 Super User Posted October 24, 2008 I work with filthy lil' kids I am definately getting one again this year. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 I got the flu about six years and it seriously kicked my butt for almost 6 weeks. I was a week in bed, so dizzy and feverish that I couldn't get up at all. After that week, I was dizzy and achy for over a month after that. It was the worst thing I've ever had, and I've had broken ribs, both legs broken, chronic asthma since I was 2 (now 37), pneumonia twice, and mononucleosis - all of which are pretty serious and debilitating - but none was as miserable as that damned flu... I always get a flu shot now. There are a lot of myths and conspiracy theories about the flu shot. It is all bunk. Quote

bassdocktor Posted October 24, 2008 Author Posted October 24, 2008 Catt I take no offense. Everyone has their own feelings and some people feel a flu shot isn't for them. Like everyone said the stuff that makes the flu shot is very natural and it comes from the dead virus(pretty natural). Alot more natural than most stuff in any type of processed foods. As for mutation I really don't know how much of an impact the shot has on that. If you really wanna know send me a PM and I can look into it but viruses are mutating pretty quickly on their own already and they are all over the world. Guys Muddy hit it on the head. There are alot of people that are at risk, especially for pneumonia. The idea is to try and reduce you risk. I understand alot of guys saying you don't want one because you've never had any flu symptoms. You do realize you are probably carriers and are spreading it instead of having it right? Another reason to get it is to prevent spreading it if you are someone who has a large contact with the public, especially if you are around people who have a higher risk for getting the flu. I just thought I'd pass long some info that might help some of you guys and remind others to get their shot again in case they forgot. Just a friendly reminder. If anyone is wondering, yes, I did get mine and will be from now on. Don't forget many pharmacies do them on a walk in basis if you are still looking to get one. Many pharmacists are trained to give certain immunizations. Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 24, 2008 Super User Posted October 24, 2008 Big coinsidence then. Every year I get one (orders given by the mother since I still live at home) within 2 weeks I have all the flu symptoms, including my favorite, you feel like you have been hit by a semi. Great way too loose weight though. I'm 3 for 3. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted October 24, 2008 Super User Posted October 24, 2008 I got the flu shot about a week ago. My symptoms were pain and anguish from the pre-shot thoughts. I HATE NEEDLES !!!!!!! Yes, I know I'm a wimp :'( Quote

Yes, I know I'm a wimp :'( Naaa, not that bad. I pass out when doctors take blood from me. As soon I see my blood, I turn pale and out. :-[ Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 25, 2008 Super User Posted October 25, 2008 I have to ***** myself about 6 times a day to check my blood glucose levels, and blood draws still make me nearly pass out. Every three days, I have to insert a 2" cannula via a larger needle into my belly for my insulin pump. Shots still make me weak in the knees. The fear of shots seems innate. Quote
Jake. Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 I get the mist that you sniff up your nose. No needles involved. Quote
wagn Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Who gets pneumonia?!?! I mean, really? I'm not paying to be vaccinated for something I have never had a problem with I get pneumonia... I'm only 26 but last winter I came down with what the doc said was the flue, and while I was weakened and sick I got pneumonia. It kept me out of work for over a month. Not a good time Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 25, 2008 Super User Posted October 25, 2008 It aint that the flu shot aint for me it's the entire pharmaceutical industry; aint nothing but legalized drug dealers. Quote
bassdocktor Posted October 25, 2008 Author Posted October 25, 2008 Catt would you care to elaborate on that statement? That's a very large statement against a very large group of people. Quote
senko_77 Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 I love how every winter, my friends and there families get a little sniffle, and they are moaning about how they have the flu. I have never had it, but I have seen people with it and I know it's a whole lot worse than a sniffle and a cough. Never got the shot because I'm petrified of needles. I can bet that when I get it for the first time, I'll be the first lined up to get the vaccine. Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 27, 2008 Super User Posted October 27, 2008 One of the largest problems in this country is overuse of perception drugs & don't give me this BS about it aint the pharmaceutical industry problem since they don't prescribe them. Y'all don't have to prescribe them y'all give them away free ensuring everyone gets hooked. Yes I understand many drugs are quite helpful but this industry needs to step back & look past the dollar signs. Quote
