frogtog Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 or dumb as heck, I just paid $8.00 for one tungsten weight to use at Guntersville. That's what they said I needed to punch a hole in the mats were the Big Girls are. ;D Would you do it ? Quote
basser89 Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Can I borrow some money???? ;D Me? Nah, I'd use what I have! Quote
-HAWK- Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Why was it $8 for one weight? That sounds a little steep. Quote

Well I probably would if that was what it took to get the job done. I did pay 5.45 for four at Academy last week. Go figure. You need to get four, just in case you break off several. Don't tell the missis. Quote
Bassboss Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 if you ask me you could have paid 1.99 for Picasso Pro-Metal Worm Weight, they go up to 1oz. But then again I'm not rich! Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted October 21, 2008 Super User Posted October 21, 2008 ive used those to cast giant worms through the rocks with Definitely worth it in grass, you'll use the same one all season. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted October 21, 2008 Super User Posted October 21, 2008 If you are using heavy braid to flip grass the chances are you won't lose it. I bought some tungsten weights for the same use and I haven't lost one using braid. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I would too but only if you have the lead based lazer line that you need to use with it. I have an extra spool, PM for price ;D We can all call you crazy, but I think I'll wait till AFTER you use it to say so just in case..... Quote

bassnleo Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Would I do it? Heck YES. Here's a ture story.....Early Oct I fished the PA Bass Federation Classic. In my pre-tournament studies I learned that the body of water had matted grass. I had tungsten up to 3/4 oz but needed a 1 ouncer to punch hydrilla mats. Caught 1 pretty nice fish doing it in practice and had a few other bites I shook off. I end up in 5th after day 1 but couldn't go to my fish due to rough water. Day 2 I get a limit and make a long run to my mat fish. On my FIRST pitch I zap a 3 pounder with my 1 ounce tungsten weight. I end up in 6th place and I'm on my way to the 2009 Mid-Atlantic Divisional. That one $6 tungsten weight..... Quote

The only tungsten I've ever lost were while carolina rigging with braid. Quote
TopDog Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 No way! If your paying more than $3 your wasting money. Quote

Super User cart7t Posted October 22, 2008 Super User Posted October 22, 2008 $8 for a worm weight? ;D Quickly devising a worm weight retriever as we speak. Quote

Super User Long Mike Posted October 22, 2008 Super User Posted October 22, 2008 With few exceptions, I do not fish tournaments. I compete only with myself. I have not, and will not, spend that kind of money for a simple weight. A one ounce weight is a one ounce weight. The tungsten weight may be smaller, but I don't care. Call me ignorant if you wish, but you will not convince me to change. Quote
frogtog Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 It's actually worst than you think, I bought 4 of them. ;D It's a bullet weight so for punching holes would it not be better to rig it with the small end toward the hook ? Quote

Call me ignorant if you wish, but you will not convince me to change. I agree with you LM. For some odd reason I can't get myself to jump on the tungsten band wagon. I'll pay upwards of $100 for swimbaits, but I can't pay $8 for weights :-? I still don't get how these guys use them for dropshotting. I loose 5-10 weights a trip if I'm DSing a lot. That's a lot of tungsten. I"m sure it's worth it though. I can see how that smaller diameter will help, especially punching mats. Quote

TheBeast Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 It took me a while to jump on the tungsten wagon as well but it is worth it. You get much more feel from them where lead is softer it absorbs some of the fell a tungsten weight transmits directly to the line. As far as dropshotting goes, I don't see any need to use tungsten since the weight would have no effect on feeling strikes. Quote
