BucketmouthAngler13 Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 So today I finally got myself some steel shot at a reasonable price and decided to go duck hunting by myself. I loaded up the kayak with the deeks and some grub and my gun, and headed out of my backyard two miles upstream to my spot. I got in my duck blind that I built a few weeks in advance and seated myself down. After two hours of watching geese fly by, I was laying down in the blind, looking at the wild blue yonder and watching those little specks that float around on your eyeball. I couldn't see much of anything but I heard the fast sound of wings coming. Before I had time to think I heard some birds land in my decoys, only 30ft from me. I grabed my gun, jumped up, flicked the safty off, and popped up. I saw three ducks, wood ducks to be exact, and they saw me. They started to fly and just as they where leaving the water I let the one drake have it. The shot echoed across the lake several times and the bird went down. I was too exited to think about shooting one of the others. It flopped around for a seccond, then was still. I waited a minute than grabbed my kayak and went out and fetched it. Two ours later I came paddling home, happy as could be, with dinner below deck. Quote

Tom H. Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 First off let me say congrats on your first bird . Now let me say this , put down the gun , and stick with fishing PERIOD This sport will cost you more than fishing will (ask my ol' lady) , By the time you buy decoys , guns , shells , camoflage, duck calls, a new duck boat (sorry can't have a fishing boat and duck boat combo), a good dog , dog food , vet bill's for said dog , training for said dog (because no one wants to hunt over an untrained retriever) , etc..... Come to think about it I need to get a 2nd job just to pay for my duck hunting habits As far as what wood taste like , well they taste like wood ducks . About number 4 on the list for good tasting ducks . Quote
