Super User Hookemdown. Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 A fellow member from Virginia (who will go unnamed) has been stirring this up lately. Here's my list. Southeast: VA, WV, KY, AR, TN, LA, MS, AL, GA, NC, SC, FL The south would include the above, along with TX and OK Quote
Super User burleytog Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 VA, TN, LA, MS, AL, GA, SC, NC, FL As much as I love TX and OK, they aren't southern states. Southern in geography, yes. But in spirit? No... BTW, have you ever been to WV? If not, visit the state and then tell me it is a southern state. I love that place, but southern it isn't. WV is good people all the same. Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 Mississippi, Alabama, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 9, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 9, 2008 From where I live - anything below Washington state! ;D Quote
Super User Dan: Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 I have always thought of "The South" as the states Burley listed. Then the "Deep South" is Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Northern Florida. As I said in the other thread, I don't think Northern VA should be counted as "The South" anymore because it is a drastically different culture than the rest of the state. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 Thats easy: There Is BROOKLYN, then the North East Territories, then the Western wilderness all other areas are the south ;D Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 Easy answer All SEC states plus all ACC states, with th exception of Maryland. And the only reason Louisiana is a southern state is that it is located in the USA. Louisiana is a country unto itself. Louisiana - Come As You Are - Leave Different. P.S. All guys under the age of 18 are to stay out of the French Quarter as they may have heart attacks or nervous breakdowns if they see those sights. ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User Muddy Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 I lived on Conti Street for a while Sam in the 70's, beofre moving to Carondelte and Washington in the Garden District then to Metarie and finally Covington. That was as they say AN ADULT PORTION! New Orleans in particular, and Lousiana as a whole was one of my best experinces. The people of Lousiana are remarkable and a close second to Brooklyn. It is a matter of growing up in Brooklyn, you always love your hometown the best. The people of New Orleans were welcoming , rich in music knowledge and appreciation and all were proud of their varios heritages. 8-) Quote
George Welcome Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 According to history - everything south of that line. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 Thats what I was thinking too, George. Mason Dixon line is about a 15 minute ride from my front door. Quote

Does that make Massachusetts a southern state? Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 I agree with George. I was always told any state south of the Mason-Dixon Line was "The South". Falcon Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 9, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 9, 2008 The "Deep South" is Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Northern Florida. If northern Florida is the "Deep South", what is southern Florida? Quote
Super User Dan: Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 The "Deep South" is Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Northern Florida. If northern Florida is the "Deep South", what is southern Florida? Not the deep south. I don't think that the terms "The South" and "Deep South" are strictly geographic. Fact is, northern Florida and Central/Southern Florida are probably about as different as Northern Virginia and the rest of Virginia. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 Any state that has a confederate flag on the courthouse lawn. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 9, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 9, 2008 It's all American to me! Quote

Super User Muddy Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 Yes it is all America, nicley put Boss! The whole pot of stew is made with a lot of ingredients, stirred with a single spoon: OLD SICILIAN SAYING 8-) Quote
-HAWK- Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Too me any State that fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. That is also South of the Mason Dixon line, is considered a Southern State. West Virginia included. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:US_map-South_Historic_1.PNG I dont see how this is really up for debate. Its History... Quote

WV never prclaimed secession from the Union, it was just claimed by the Confederacy. Though some if it's counties in the eastern part of the state did. It was spilt about half and half, including the number of troops that fought for the Union and Confederacy. And I could have sworn it was acctually a border state when it did enter the Union half-way through the war. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 Where I grew up at the mouth of the Mississippi, anyone who lived north of Shreveport, La. was considered a "yankee". LOL ;D ;D Ronnie Quote

Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 to me, the southern states are the ones we whooped in the civil war but as a consolation prize, they got the longer bass growing season ;D For work purposes, the southern states are all he ones listed under the southern section Quote
