Daniel My Brother Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 And by the way, the most overrated and crappy band of all time was Loverboy. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 From the options voted Kiss.... Think it would help their standings with the "younger" fans if they could somehow gag Gene Simmons....... Â As far as my personal choice of overrated bands, to many to choose from during the 80's hair band era...... Quote
Super User Muddy Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 Hard Choice, musically they both leave a lot to be desired. Abba sold more albums in the world at one time, and they rot also. Sales does not equal talent, that shows a good manager who knows what a current auidence wants  Miles Davis , musically is eons more talanted than Fats Domino ( botrh big favorites of mine) now, Fats sold more singles than the beatles ( The measure of sucess at the time) and Miles was far better than either of them , musically both talent and excecution and composition. So sales and talent are not hand in hand  Also on this list of " Genius bands, or great bands that suck" Metallica Pink Floyd_ once your drugs wear off The Gratefull Dead Most 70's English "rock bands"  They never got American Rock and Roll down Rush Allman Brothers-- exactly what is the point of all that noodeling anyway? Pfish: sorry fellas Jerry Garcia is Dead  I grew up and made a living as a full time drummer, until 17 years ago, another story. I will not compare Jazz to thsi music, as this is the standard I hold all musicans too. That being said I lived and played in NY and New Orelans and have seen and played in some of the finest ROCK AND ROLL BANDS (NOT ROCK) imaginable, While I never was in a very famous band I have had the pleasue of playing with many talented musicans So I am leaving Jazz out of this mix, its apples and oranges.  However: Blues , Rock and Roll and R&B are the foundation of this music SO:  When You grow up watching and seeing live; BB KING, MUDDY WATERS< PROFESSOR LONG HIAR< JEERY LEE LEWIS<LITTLE RICHARD<CHUCK BERRY< FATS DOMINO<JIMI HENDRIX<THE METERS>THE NEVILLE BROTHERS>DR>JOHN< THE WHOLE STAX LABEL and ALLAN TOUSIANT, BOOKER T AND THE MG"S<WILSON PICKETT< AL GREENE<JAMES BROWN>TOWER OF POWER and SANTANA these other bands are more like somekind of radio static. The Eagles while not loud were really much like country elevator music.  DO THEY HAVE ELEVATORS OUT IN THE COUNTRY? Quote
Super User cart7t Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 I can not believe you young bucks are dissing 2 of the best and most successful bands in history. Both of those bands are something special in music history. Agreed, but consider the source. These guys weren't even born (ok, Matt was in diapers) when Hotel California came out. You can't expect them to have any sort of perspective or appreciation for what that sound meant when it was new. And I wish somebody would tell my 18 year old that the Eagles are overrated and crappy so she would quit stealing my CDs. I totally agree. Â What's interesting is the kids today are still listening to the stuff that I was listening to when I was their age. Â When I ask my 19 year old, he says it's because my music was just that good and that much of the music out today sucks. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 At the same time said bands were out so were THE BAND DOUBLE TROUBLE BB KINGS BAND THE NEVILLE BROTHERS DR.JOHN TOWER OF POWER SANTANA among others: all of these bands had charted hits, and Grammys during the duration of these other 2 bands Kiss and the Eagles don't belong on the same post with these guys , yet alone a statement COMPARED TO WHAT WAS OUT AT THE TIME GEEZZ!!!!!!!!! Quote
Top Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 they are what they are and if you think they suck then more power to you... I for one grew up a "metal head" so a lot of your sucky bands I like... NOW the music today.. with the yelling and no singing... THAT sucks... Â I KILLED MY FATHER BECAUSE HE WOULDN"T RAISE MY ALLOWANCE ARRRRRRRRRRR LOL but to each his own... AL Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 Hey Fourbizz, Just out of curiosity, if these bands are so bad, who do you listen to? Falcon Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Pink Floyd and Rush also come to mind. Quote
Top Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 my guitar playing TRULY sucks but I have only been doing it two weeks hahahaha Quote
dave Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Surprised it took Muddy 3 pages before posting. Â Good input. Oh, Â The Grateful Dead is on my list. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 I see I'm in the minority, picking the Eagles. Â They were good, but they sucked, LOL. Â There was so much better out there than either group, at that time. Â Quote
Super User Tin Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 Your way off Bizzle, I mean come on. The two worstbands in history are Boston and Van Halen. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 How 'bout Snoop Dog doin' country music? Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 How 'bout Snoop Dog doin' country music? Snoop only did country because he wanted in on Willy's stash  ;D Quote
Super User grimlin Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 How 'bout Snoop Dog doin' country music? Snoop only did country because he wanted in on Willy's stash ;D That actually makes sense... Quote
fishbear Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I am not sure that you could claim the Eagles are a rock band, however, those harmonies are killer. Â As for bad bands, come on, noone has mentioned Nirvana yet??? Lets sing "Rape Me" over and over and over again, and maybe someone will buy it!! Â (Barfing Now) Â If he had not eaten a shotgun barrel, they would be a nobody band now. Quote
AnthonyRSS Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I don't care for Nirvana that much but you have to recognize their place in music history as the fathers of alternative. However, music is such a highly personal thing I don't think you can call any of them overrated unless you have measurable quantities of such. Â Some bands don't have that much talent (relative) but they still make 'good' music. Quote
farmpond1 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 If these are your choices for worst bands (especially the Eagles), I'd hate to see your choice for best bands. Quote
Crabcakes Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I'll throw my votes in The aforementioned: KISS Eagles as well as: Guns and Roses Journey Foreigner Aerosmith And I don't know if blaming these choices on the age of the posters works in all cases. If you notice the same bands come up pretty often. Look at the bands Muddy mentioned. They're older than the bands most people name and not a single person has posted talking about how overrated Chuck Berry Jimi Hendrix etc etc are. I think that some bands just don't hold up as well. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 Chuck Berry,Jimi Hendrix,Little Richard,Jerry Lee Lewis and Professor Longhiar do more than hold up! They are the ORIGINATORS OF THE ART FORM and there chord strurtures and rytyms are the basis of a lot of the "NEW MUSIC" that still follows in their path. 8-) Quote
thetr20one Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Mettalica sucks? They have made a few bombs but, NOBODY that heavy has ever reached such a large demographic. Motley Crue SUCKS hardcore, making poser music for over two decades and now releasing more poser crap. KISS laid the groundwork for all bands that suck or have ever sucked. The new music today is what it is all the same. I grew up on Aerosmith, The Eagles, Elvis, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and most of the crap that is being touted as crap. I see how many new bands are coming out with the same type music these days and want to yank out my hair. My ipod has such a diverse library that anyone on this site would problably find music they love and hate. I voted KISS because they are in a suck league of their own. Quote
CRFisher Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I don't care for Nirvana that much but you have to recognize their place in music history as the fathers of alternative. . Pixies, Janes Addiction, Chili Pepppers, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. were all around well before Nirvana, before that you also had the Ramones, Stooges, New York Dolls, etc. that were punk and/or"alternative". Â You also had softer groups like the Cure, Bauhaus, etc. that were considered "alternative". Â Pearl Jam did as much to push the "alternative: Seattle sound as Nirvana and were probably bigger than Nirvana for a good part of the early 90's. I think Pink Floyd is underrated. Â Nobody else like them. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 GNR is good, but gets old after a while. Â Rush is awesome, as Geddy Lee is a music god. There's a lot of good music here being deemed "crappy". Â Different tastes I guess. Â Quote
