atx_newbie Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 So I just thought of a pretty interesting scenario that I would like to see play out for the rest of the season. It won't be exactly likely, but certainly plausible, especially with what we have seen in college football from last season and so far this season. Besides, the guys on ESPN all get paid, and are wrong way more than half the time. So why can't I give my opinion and be wrong for free. Texas looses 2 between now and December to teams from Big-12 North, but beats Oklahoma, and Oklahoma looses one to OK State because of the rivalry (work with me here). So Texas goes on to rep the south in the B-12 championship and beats Mizzou. Meanwhile, in the Sec... LSU drops 2 of it's remaining games--FLA and GA seem likely, and beats Bama. Bama then goes on to drop one to Auburn in the rivalry game. So LSU reps the SEC west in the championship, and beats Fla to take the SEC title. Now you have 2 teams, who played the most difficult schedules in their respective conferences, took 2 losses, but still won their conference championships. Then you would have a national championship with a couple of 2 loss teams. And this is fairly feasible, we've seen crazier things happen. Man, wouldn't it be cool to see the analysts heads explode after that! Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted October 1, 2008 Super User Posted October 1, 2008 I don't see OU losing to OSU, Mizzou, or Texas. Maybe Tech though... Quote
TournyFish001 Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 OU vs. Alabama for #1 Boise State BCS crasher Quote
Pitchinkid Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 WVU wins the Big East, Gets the automatic BCS Bowl Bid, Plays for the National Championship, gets beat by Florida 198 to -73 Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 1, 2008 Super User Posted October 1, 2008 Penn State and BYU to run the table. Southern Cal ends with one early season loss. Alabama crashes at LSU and Auburn. Georgia is wiped out and is out of the picture. Auburn QB is still confused and loses four games before beating Bama. Florida has three losses and ties Vandy for SEC East but since Vandy beat the Gators, Vandy goes on to the SEC Championship game. Ohio State has one loss to USC. Notre Dame loses the rest of its games but the media puts them in the Top 10, anyway. Missouri wins it's conference. Oklahoma wins it's conference. Texas gets upset at the ref's calls in their two losses and the entire state withdraws from the Union. Aggies are all confused and they shoot off that big cannon on campus and wipe out their mess hall. Missouri and OU play for thier Big 12 Championship and Missouri wins. OU claims refs cheated so Oklahoma joins Texas by withdrawing from the Union. Meanwhile, good ole LSU just runs the table and gets to go to the BCS game to play Missouri. Either way, a "Tiger" will win. Riots break out in Los Angles, Columbus and Happy Valley. BYU sends out 500,000 Mormons all over the USA. President of USA tells Texas and Oklahoma to stay out of the Union and form their own country. LSU beats Missouri and is the first school to have three balls. (LSU is the only school with two balls, now) Everything quiets down and life goes on. Hey, I can have some fun with this, too. ;D ;D ;D Quote
atx_newbie Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 Hey, anything that ends with LSU on top and I'm a happy camper. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted October 1, 2008 Super User Posted October 1, 2008 Why don't we have a conference with the 20 best teams. You could have a N, S, E, & W five team conference. They all could scheldule two D-II schools and 10 of any of the others in D-I for the 12 game scheldule. Take all the teams from the four conferences and seed them according to record That's a 20 team playoff. Means three extra games for each school for a total of 13 annual games. All playoff games could be seeded as bowl games. The top 20 could be picked from their won-loss records for the last 20 years. That way a team out of the mix could get in after several years if they got hot and bettered their last 20 year record. Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 1, 2008 Super User Posted October 1, 2008 You can't have such a super conference as some teams will play great for a number of years (Nebraska and Virginia) and then fall off whilie other doormats (Wake Forest, Virginia Tech) come alive and become one of the big boys. Plus the money aspect. The conferences make a fortune on bowl games and they don't want to give up the money. Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 1, 2008 Super User Posted October 1, 2008 Why not just have a playoff like every other sport in the world Quote
