Certified Public Angler Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Anyone guessing what a fish weighed...sorry I'll have to see it to believe it. Estimating weight is impossible. Also I hate reading a report that includes someone catching anywhere from 20-50 bass. Mostly because I'm really jealous. Quote
DADto4 Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 SUUUUUUUUUN! Yeah thats the worst, ticks me off just to see it, not to mention quoting it > P.S. You forgot the...AAAAWWWW.....just before the...SUUUUN Quote
Fisher of Men Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 "Rip some lips" That one puts a burr under my saddle. I know it's not mean't that way, but it just sounds unethical as if to indicate we are hurting fish. Being a hunter/boater/angler instructor all these years has led be to be choosy how I talk about our sports in front of non-participants. (I.e. "harvest" or "bag" or "take" a game animal instead of "kill") I guess another would be "filled the boat". This might lead a non-fisher to believe we are exeeding our limit and violating the law. mattm Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I HATE "There are two types of fish:bass and bait." Seriously, I could go the rest of my life w/o hearing a bad day fishing beats a good day at work. I've understood that for a while now. I need people to stop telling me. Quote
Pitchinkid Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Ive never heard it in person, but the "booyah" commercial with everybody hollering "BOOYAH" I swear to god i would swim over and pistol whip anyone who said it. Quote

Olebiker Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 While they aren't cliches, I have to bite my tongue whenever I hear anyone refer to a smallmouth as a smallie. Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted September 25, 2008 Super User Posted September 25, 2008 I always thought that fisherman were really laid back. A lot of you get angry over the most trivial little things. : Quote
Big Tom Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 This thread cracks me up. I don't mind when people reference smallmouths by saying smallies but for some reason when I hear someone call a largemouth a largie (which has happened more than once) it irks me. I also find myself laughing every time I hear Stacy King or Edwin Evers talk. Those dudes basically communicate in cliche. Quote

The Rooster Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I didn't see any on here that bother me and actually picked up a couple I might use................but only if any of you guys aren't around. Only thing I saw that I have a comment on is the part about any non-participants in the sport having a problem when someone says "filled the boat" about fishing, or "killed" referring to shooting a deer or something. I say it is what it is and they just need to get over it. They don't hunt or fish cause they don't like it, but having a problem with people who do is completely overstepping their boundaries and getting offended when someone says they killed something is just stupid. I spent about 6 years working in sporting goods at a Wal-Mart and it never failed that someone who didn't even hunt would be back there during deer season and act like it bothered them that other customers would be buying arrows and broadheads or rifle shells to shoot something with. : My hat's off to the guy who goes the extra mile in talking about it to watch what he says in order to not promote any negative publicity about the sports. Congratulations and thank you for taking your job so seriously to protect it for the rest of us. I just wish people would wake up and realize though that they eat animals for food each day that were slaughtered for their meat and those animals didn't even have a chance like the deer does when you hunt it. Where do they think hamburger comes from?? Quote

Where do they think hamburger comes from?? Rooster, Think of it from a non-hunter/non-angler's perspective, perhaps that of a little old lady who's neither for or against hunting/angling. Let's say she hear's the bloody account of "killing" a deer at the local cafe from across the room. Her normally "non-interest" may turn to opposition. If this happens to very many people, and they start writing local politicians, it might lead to some opposition to our "privilege" to hunt or fish. I understand that other anglers/hunters may not be offended by such talk, but we should be courteous and considerate to those who are "neutral" to our sport(s). I'm not condoning having to "walk on eggshells" regarding our sport(s), but we don't need to give the opposition any ammunition on their behalf. God bless, Fisher Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 26, 2008 Super User Posted September 26, 2008 Perhaps then we should discuss slaughterhouses and chicken farms while in earshot of someone mawing down a Philly Steak sandwich, LOL. Quote
