Avalonjohn44 Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I'm getting older, and at 37 I hate to think that I am already entering into my curmudgeonly phase, but I guess I am because I get irritated so quickly by ordinary things... One thing that bugs me today is cliches.... I hate hearing certain phrases, there are a million of them, but I think the one that gets on my nerves the most is: That's why tt's called fishing, not catching... - Or something similar. Another few that bug me when I read them: Confidence bait Match the hatch Let the fish tell you what they want Senko Putting together a pattern Tight lines Big baits equals big fish... There are a million more. This isn't a slam on anyone in particular, just poking some fun at our sport. I'm guilty of using every one of these too, so I guess that makes me a hypocritical curmudgeon. Add your own bass cliches that bug you... ;D Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 23, 2008 Super User Posted September 23, 2008 Definitely over 10 lbs, but she broke me off. (especially from someone who has never landed a 5) Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 fishing is best when wind is from west etc. Quote

Branuss04 Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 A buddy heard this one from a show and I still get a crack everytime I hear it- If the sticks on the water are floating completely, the bite is hot, if the sticks are mostly submerged with only an end floating, the bite sucks. What if some are and some aren't???? Better throw at the logs that are floating Quote

Super User fourbizz Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 Look at the size of that Toad! This is a toad This is a big bass I don't get the connection. I tihnk this might be a socal bred phrase. I take it to mean that she was incredibly fat and bulgy, like a toad with bugged out eyes. The one that I use that makes no sense whatsoever is "Donkey" i have no idea where it came from but I use it. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 I just realized something, this gal has man hands. Quote

The first place I ever heard it was from Al Lindner and the guys on his fishing show. It never made sense to me and I have never actually heard anyone else ever use it in real life. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Someone else sees us catching fish out on the lake..."Hey, what are you guys using!??" I always say what it is I'm using, but want to say, "They're biting anything - you just have to be over here and not lodged up in that thick mess of crap." 8-) I'm not bothered much by fishing cliches, but everyday ones really P me off... Controlling your own destiny. It's was meant to happen. - what the heck does that mean? Extended conversations about the weather. - I know what it did yesterday. I was there too. (Well that's not really a cliche, but it is something that happens a lot) I could go on and on, but I'm starting to P myself off By the way, I've seen that picture before. Great picture Quote

Super User 5bass Posted September 25, 2008 Super User Posted September 25, 2008 "Let the fish tell you what they want" Translation: I really don't know what's best for you to throw, just throw everything you have until you get bit, then stick with that bait. Quote
