Masshole Mike Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I've checked staples and my local post office and can't seem to find cardboard shipping tubes over 4' long anywhere. I need to ship a 1-piece 7'6" rod so the tubes gonna have to be 8' long, anyone have any ideas where I could get one? I'd rather not have to tape two tubes together but I've got to get this rod shipped out soon. Russ, would UPS have what i 'm looking for? Thanks guys. Quote
Bassboy15 Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 It's tough, but get a g-loomis in the mail and it will come in one Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted September 23, 2008 Super User Posted September 23, 2008 Waiting..... : j/k man. Just hold onto it for now, dont spend a bunch of time looking. Shoot me a PM w/ your addy and I will send you the cash. Get the rod/reel to me later. Wayne Quote
Masshole Mike Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 I'm gonna track one down, its now my mission. I just wanna make sure it gets to you in one piece, nahmean? PM sent. Quote
Super User flechero Posted September 23, 2008 Super User Posted September 23, 2008 The cardboard tubes I have only found at tackle shops. You can use a PVC tube and end plugs... probably cheaper than what you already spent in time & gas looking for cardboard... and PVC is stronger, waterproof and available almost everywhere. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted September 23, 2008 Super User Posted September 23, 2008 I have 2 of them lying around. Do you work for UPS like that RI mook? Maybe I can send them to you Quote

Live.2.Fish Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Go to a floor covering store/warehouse and get their old carpet tubes. I guessing that they have a lot of them just laying around. They are at least 12ft long, Then just cut to size. Just my $.02 Quote
Masshole Mike Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 Thanks for the suggestions guys. Muddy, an UPS man I am not, although I'm betting Wayne's wishin I was! I'll check a local carpet store, see if they've got anything lying around. If not I guess I'll be pickin up some PVC. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Its alot easier for a ups guy to crush a cardboard tube then PVC. Take that Russ. LOL ;D Kidding aside I agree with Fletchero. Go with PVC. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted September 24, 2008 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted September 24, 2008 It is possible to crush pvc in two places, opposite directions. It seems that having two new graphite rod blanks inside somehow weakens the molecular structure of PVC. Thanks Fed Ex Quote

It should be in FedEx's "What not to do" manual. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I have a plastic one from RedlineRobert. Holds an 8 ft'r. Come get it Quote
Super User cart7t Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 You can get a 2" diameter PVC tube, 8ft long at Lowes for around $4. I've used those to ship a single rod or 2. Quote
Super User flechero Posted September 24, 2008 Super User Posted September 24, 2008 I've had rods/blanks break in PVC but never seen a tube S'd like that! Here is why I hate cardboard, with FedEx or UPS... had one from each look like this. Miraculously, the Loomis IMX blank was still in one piece!!!! Quote
Top Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 yep.. i can relate... both rods inside were broke took forever to get my money back too but I eventually did AL Quote

Thanks Fed Ex Can't you see that they just folded it to save some room? ;D I havent had a rod broke in shipping, but i have had a taped tube where i guess it split or something. Rod was fine though Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I have four extreme duty cardboard rod tubes in the garage. Two of them are probably 1/2 inch wall thickness. My carrots came in them. They are 8' long. Quote
