If you want accuracy don't go digital.

Boga Grip is spring loaded and highly accurate.

That is ridiculous.

"accuracy" needs to be defined. To get a scale certified, at least in CA, the scale needs to be accurate within 1 of its smallest units of measure. A boga grip is marked out in 4oz intervals, meaning, that to be certified, it most only be accurate within a quarter of a pound. So thats why they get all hyped out by people as being so accurate, yeah right, within 4ozs?

A Salter Electro Samson is certifiable and its smallest unit of measure is either .5ozs, when in pounds and ounces mode, or .05 lbs when in the pounds and decimal format. By my rough calculations that makes this scale 8 times more accurate(certifiable with units of measure 1/8 of the boga) at simlar prices.

The berkleys are also pretty good. within about an ounce typically, as checked against groceries weighed on certified scales.

See now: I could fire back that your choice is rediculous as well as your claims but I won't.

I don't worry about state certification, but rather IGFA certification.

I prefer a scale that is non-temperature reliant, non-battery reliant, and able to stand up in the harsh enviornment that I operate in. I also prefer a scale that cannot be influenced by outside sources such as cell phones and such. I prefer a scale that is as accurate five years from now as it is today.

Actually the Salter is a good scale as long as you keep it protected from the elements.

BassMasterRob,

Actually, any scale you wish to purchase will suffice.

You see, it doesn't matter what your boat's scale reads.

It matters what your club's scales or the bait/tackle shop's scales read.

All scales will be off by a few ounces. Some high; some low.

Your scale should operate as Geroge Welcome says while on the boat to give you an idea of your weights and that's all.

Hand held and boat scales are not designed to be the last word on your fish's weight.  Only an indication of how one fish's weight compares with another fish's weight on the same scale.

So don't go bonkers picking out the "best" scale.  Just purchase a good  brand and remember to "tug on the fish's tail" when looking at the weight!!!!! ;D

Sam, felt the way you do. :'(UNTIL :'(caught a PB this Spring and weighed it on my Rapala at 7lb15oz. Week or so ago went to a state run lake with grocery style scales. Caught nice fish that weighed about 5 1/2 on my scale and then weighed it on state scale.......slight hair under 6. My PB would actually been over 8 :'(. In the sceam of things this means less than a hill of beans to most folks...BUT... :'(

i have a Berkley 50lb Digi Scale that i got from walmart for something like 20 bucks, and it is either dead one, or accurate within one or ounces (tested on groceries). this is much better than my rapala digital scale which usually weighed 4oz shy every time.

ill look into that one u got from walmart sounds like a good deal to me ;)

yeah its the best out of 4 (2 spring, 2 digital) scales that i have used. and its got built in memory, and it can read in LB's OZ's or KG's G's. so yeah it is a pretty good deal!

i have a rapala one and its nice. had a berkley before and it definitely went through hell before it gave out. my brother used the berkly to pull a shark in(stupid idea) waaaay over the 50lbs the scale is rated for and it never broke... untill the 5th time he did it.

I have a Berkley 50 lb digital that I keep in a Zip Lock bag in my tackle box as well as a spare battery (learned that the hard way).  Anyway, it is accurate +/- 1 ounce last time I measured it using certified weights.  I only went up to 10lbs to test accuracy, but I figure thats close enough for what I'll be doing.  Heaviest fished I weighed was a 32lb Snook.
