$5.35!!! Are you kidding me!? Is that just at one store or are there a lot around that range? Sorry, yadkinville, NC is starting to get closer to home.

I saw $5.35 in Greensborro also. However most pumps are running out.

Its an hour and a half drive from school to home for me, and I did not see one gas station without a line.

The news just said gas will go up $1.50 by tomorrow. Get yours today!

AR Gov. Mike Beebe Declares State of Emergency

LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) - Governor Mike Beebe has declared a state of emergency in Arkansas because of gasoline-supply interruptions in relation to Hurricane Ike.

Some pipelines that route gasoline to fuel wholesalers and gas stations in Arkansas have been shut down until Ike is no longer a threat to the Gulf Coast.  As a result, some temporary increases in gas prices are expected during the next few days.  However, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has vowed to go after anyone who tries to profit illicitly from the situation through price gouging.  A statement from Beebe's office states that he fully supports McDaniel's efforts, and made this declaration to help the AG's Office pursue anyone who participates in gouging of any sort.

"We have dealt with emergencies before when severe weather has impacted fuel prices in Arkansas and throughout the region," Beebe said.  "This situation is unique with the interruption of pipeline service, and we want to do everything we can to make sure that any price gouging that results can be dealt with swiftly and strongly by the Attorney General."

Yep, they would rather that there be NO gas to sell.

Higher prices during times like these ensure that there will be no shortages.  Higher price=less hoarding.

Richmond, Virginia

Sheetz on Huguenot Road   $3.34

Bon Air BP  $3.79

Bon Air Exxon  $3.59

I go to Bon Air BP as I am friendly with the owner and he tells me that he will be able to get only 80% of his regular weekly order durng the week of September 15.

So I filled up the SUV and boat for my Sunday tournament.  ;D

If nothing else, I can work from home but I can't fish from home.  ;)

To preface my response, I love this site & enjoy the people here. I'm more of a lurker & get tons of valuable information from everyone here. However, gouging DOES exist, whether one wants to agree with the concept or definition, or not. Lets face it, people are greedy. They either want something for nothing, or they want business to sell it for less. Business has adopted the same attitudes we've held for so long. They are going to jack the price as legally high as they can. I've talked to too many independent station owners. They have been stuck for a while, but now with oil around the $100 mark, they are making up for their lack of profits (all that I've talked to admit to this), and are drooling over Ike.

How about we raise all food by 500% tomorrow. No problem? How about all electric & natural gas utilities are raised by 700% on Monday?

Ok with you? Gouging? Capitalism isn't fair & doesn't coincide with the so-called norms of our society. Pick one, do you want to be fair, or is money so important that fairness no longer matters? I say let gas go to $15-20/gallon, and a loaf of bread go to $10. Then we'll see what many say when their 50-100k salary barely keeps them in their house. If it's all about money & capitalism, then being fair and helping your fellow man no longer matters, it's the new God. Money.

I don't remember the percentage and the time frame involved (and I'm too lazy to look them up) but in Oklahoma, in times of emergency, it is illegal for a vendor to raise his prices by more than "x" % over "Y" period of time.

Fairness is a relative term. If all the other things you describe went up in cost like you are talking. I would definately re-negiotiate my salary with my employer to take advantage of me making him more profit.

Take pictures of the signs with the station in full view, and save your reciepts.  I predict there's going to be a major, major backlash to this activity.  And if you have proof, you'll have a legitimate claim.

I know of 3 here there have been fined $5,000 because they went up $0.50 a gallon; they went in front of the District Attorney and a judge. We also have an 8:00 pm to 6:00 am curfew and if you are caught vandalizing or breaking-n-entering it's straight to prison for the max amount allowed by law.

There was a rush on the gas stations yesterday. Price was and still is only $3.69 for reg unleaded but most stations are out of it.

I wound up paying $3.99 for Premium since that's all they had left. ::)

BTW, I believe the maximum they can jack the price here in Missouri is 10 or 15% a day. So far only isolated cases of that. We don't get our gas from down there anyway, we've got local refineries.

What affliation (e.g. Exxon, Chevron, etc) do the stations have?

Idiotic panic by the general population as usual.  My son works at a station and last night it was nuts.  Fist fights, arguments and for nothing. Gas prices still haven't gone up.

Arkansas Attorney General Addresses Gas Hikes

Posted: Sep 12, 2008 10:22 PM

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -- Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says his office has been inundated with claims of price gouging at the pump. While McDaniel won't name names right now, he says they are looking very closely at some stations in Jonesboro.

"It's not fair, it's not right, and it's not legal. I intend to take a very harsh view of it as we gather evidence of those who are committing these violations," said McDaniel.

McDaniel is asking consumers to help sort through rumors of what gas prices are doing, and provide his office with evidence.

"I've heard rumors of 6 dollars a gallon gasoline in south Arkansas, but we haven't found actual evidence. Most people, on their cell phones, they have cameras...I'm asking people to use those cameras and send us what they see," said McDaniel.

McDaniel warns he and his office are watching the gas prices very closely, and he urges retailers to demonstrate some restraint during what he calls a temporary interruption in supply.

"When it's happening, even after the governor has declared an emergency and my office has put the word out to retailers of what we expect, to be doing it this afternoon and continuing to raise prices in Northeast Arkansas I am particularly disappointed in and will pay particular attention to it," said McDaniel.

To send in pictures to the Attorney General's office, you can email them at gas@arkansasag.gov or you can send pictures via text message at 501-539-0969.

Wow I can't believe how low all of your prices are compared to what I usually see. The lowest I've been seeing in Chicago for awhile now is about $3.89 with most places still over the $4 mark and thats before these recent increases.

Right now I'm in Michigan with my family and gas went from $3.69 last weekend to $4.19 today. Yesterday some of those stations were at $3.89
