huskertko Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Hey guys, I have a question. I have a PS2 that I have been using on my 30 in HD tube tv, but I bought a 47in LCD this weekend. The new tv is 1080p and the PS 2 looks like crap. It is really fuzzy and you can barely read any of the text on the screen. Is this a matter of the PS2 not being able to put out high enough resolution or is this a tv issue? I plan on getting a PS3, but it won't be for several months at the earliest. Any suggestions other than getting a PS3? Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 xbox 360 ;D ;D Na mines the same way. Quote
huskertko Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 Ok, so it is just the nature of the beast, using an outdated game console on a new TV? I guess I need to start saving pennies to get a PS3. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted September 8, 2008 Super User Posted September 8, 2008 I am assuming your are still hooking your PS2 up with the stock RCA cables? ....... Go pick up one of these http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=15287 Then hook your PS2 up to the TV with the S-Video cable. I had the same problem. Quote
huskertko Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 Cool, I will try that, I just didn't want to spend a lot of money on the PS2 since I really want either a PS3 or X360, probably the PS3. Quote
TheBeast Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Just my 2 cents but I would go with the PS3 for the Blu-Ray player. Quote
huskertko Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 Along the lines of the argument of Xbox 360 vs. PS3, the only major difference I can see is the addition of a blu-ray player in the PS3. I am not a big movie fan, so that really doesn't mean much to me. I don't play online much if ever so is it really 6 one way and a half a dozen the other regarding the two consoles? Quote

huskertko Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 Nope, mainly Madden, NCAA football, MLB, Ghost recon and such. Thats about it for my game play. Quote
huskertko Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 If you have kids, go with a Wii. Already have that for the kids and wife, looking for something for me. Quote
CRFisher Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 With the price of the 360 dropping I'd probably do that over a PS3. XBox live is better than anything PS or Wii has. A new cable should improve the graphics though on the PS2. Gamecube games look fine on my Wii and bigscreen, not sure how much a Wii can upgrade the gamecube graphics but gamecube and PS2 graphics are comparable. Wii's not a hardcore gaming system but the sports titles for it aren't that bad. Quote
The_Natural Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Burley is a video game nut, huh. Man...Pro Wrestling and video games... sounds like we need to get you out on the town and pick you up some tang! Quote
Big Tom Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Just my 2 cents but I would go with the PS3 for the Blu-Ray player. Thats why I went with a PS3 and I couldn't be more pleased. Pick up Metal Gear Solid 4 and be amazed. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted September 8, 2008 Super User Posted September 8, 2008 x2 on the svideo cable Having owned most every console under the sun and being a huge playstation fan ( waited in line for 12 hours for the PS2 launch) i would avoid the PS3. Other than than MGS4 and Gran Turismo, i dont see a reason to buy one. Too dang expensive and not nearly the quality of games that XBOX360 has, and remember i was a true PS loyalist. BUUUUT Metal Gear and Gran Turismo are almost worth buying a PS3 for, lol. Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 8, 2008 Super User Posted September 8, 2008 If you have kids, go with a Wii. HE is the kid ! : Quote
Super User burleytog Posted September 8, 2008 Super User Posted September 8, 2008 I'm a video game guru? :-? When the hell did this happen and why wasn't I told about it? Quote

The downloads and the live community are a HUGE feature without the games. The only reason to buy a PS3 right now is for the blue ray player. New movies are for blue ray are more expensive at $30 each. Blue ray isn't worth that much to me at this point. But the xbox 360 and use the extra cash on a surround sound or turtle beach head phone. GOOD head phones make a huge difference in FPS. Quote
njbasser Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Buy a 360 for Gears 2. You'll regret it if you don't Buy Gears 1 too, great game Quote
huskertko Posted September 12, 2008 Author Posted September 12, 2008 Ok, with the Xbox 360, has the Red Ring of Death issue been fixed? Keep n mind that I rarely play online, so that is not much of a concern. I do however like the fact that IF I do decide to play online, it is free with PS3 and not with 360. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted September 12, 2008 Super User Posted September 12, 2008 I'm a video game guru? :-? When the hell did this happen and why wasn't I told about it? Come on Burley, everybody knows that you sit at your computer every night in your underwear playing World of Warcraft. Quote
Simp Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I'm a huge videogame nut myself. I've owned each system sence the Saturn/N64/PS launched. For the most part the 360 failure rate is in a situation where you don't need to worry about it now. The $199 sounds perfect for you. It's aimed at the casual gamer who can add features as they want them. Just pick up a HDMI cable and your set for HD gaming. Also if your into 1st person shooters the 360 is the only box for you. Personally I'm a huge Gears of War fan and the next one is going to be AWESOME!! While on the other hand the PS3 has blu ray and I do use it for that reason most of them time. It's also allot quitter then the 360. BTW 360 is also about to add avatars or "Mii's". Quote
njbasser Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Xbox is also about to add netflix to the live so if you are a member of netflix you can watch whatever movies you want on your tv. pretty sweet. Quote
huskertko Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Well, I bought a 60 Xbox today. I bought Madden for it and will probably get a shooter soon, GRAW2 or something along those lines. Circuit City didn't have the PS3 in stock and Sony is changing configuration of the PS3 so they probably won't get anymore at the cheaper price, so I decided to get the Xbox. Quote
jax Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Get COD 4 over GRAW 2. It is a much better game. You can shoot the snipers through walls. It makes it a completely different game experience. Quote
