preach4bass Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Last week: Upset VA Tech. Today: Demolished WVA. Beating two ranked teams in two weeks will definately get us into the rankings! I know that dosn't sound like much to some of you fans who cheer for teams that could lose three or four games and still be ranked, but this is our first time in the Top 25 since 1999. Go Pirates! 8-) Quote
Super User burleytog Posted September 7, 2008 Super User Posted September 7, 2008 As I told Jimzee earlier, ECU followed the beat-WVU script perfectly. Almost as if Rich (censored) (censored) (censored) Rod was still in Motown. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted September 7, 2008 Super User Posted September 7, 2008 ECU looked great. Their defense swarmed the ball the whole game and they totally outclassed WVU. Where's Troutfisher? ;D Quote
Super User 5bass Posted September 7, 2008 Super User Posted September 7, 2008 Where's Troutfisher? ;D Excellent question. I'm glad they spanked WVU like that....the VT loss doesnt seem that bad now although it hurt bad for a solid week. At least VT had a couple touchdowns. Quote
preach4bass Posted September 7, 2008 Author Posted September 7, 2008 Where's Troutfisher? ;D Last time I saw him was with 3:00 to go in the game. He was leaving, and I was singing, "Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye!!!" Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted September 7, 2008 Super User Posted September 7, 2008 Mounties definitely took a spanking. Congrats to ECU for showing us how to play football. No excuses, we just got ran the hell over. Sucks watching your football team play like that when you know they can do better. I hope this brings them back to a sense of reality. Quote
njbassguy Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 well the coach ran off to Michigan thinking He could win more games. Who do I dislike more the coach or wvu ? go Bucs Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 7, 2008 Super User Posted September 7, 2008 One more Virginia team to beat Quote

Well, at least VT got beat as well. 8-) Nah, we just gotta shake it off and focus on next week. Quote
Still a Bigbuckifan Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I was just wondering why they did not jump in to the top 25 after the VT win. I would have thought that would be enough since they came of a win in a bowl game last year against a ranked foe. Quote

They should have a solid spot in the rankings this week Quote
Super User 5bass Posted September 7, 2008 Super User Posted September 7, 2008 Yeah, ECU is definitely a team on the rise. They're doing a lot of great things on the field and have a solid coaching staff. Although VT played a terrible game against the Pirates, VT had 'em. (and you know it preach4bass don't act like you don't). ECU did not give up.....then they blocked that punt for a TD. Pirates win! All VT had to do was give the punter a little better protection so he could get that punt off and the outcome would've probably been different. But that is why they play. ECU wanted it more and they got it. ECU left no question against 8th ranked WVU.....they took control early and slammed the door on 'em in the second half. Quote

preach4bass Posted September 7, 2008 Author Posted September 7, 2008 In my very unbiased opinion, I think ECU should be ranked #1 this week. Who else has beat two ranked opponents? Who else has totally destroyed a top 10 team and shut down a Heisman hopeful? Based soely on the results of the first two weeks of the season, who should be ranked above them? :-? I'm not saying ECU is the best team in the nation, but they ought to get that #1 ranking at least this week. Ok, I realize that I'm reaching here, but a guy can dream can't he. Quote
Troutfisher Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I think ECU should also be ranked big. Quote
Still a Bigbuckifan Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Were do you think they will be ranked. I think they should be top 10 but they will more than likely be like 18-19. Quote
preach4bass Posted September 7, 2008 Author Posted September 7, 2008 The rankings are out. ECU is #14 in the nation! Some team called "USC" is first. Who they? :-? Quote
Still a Bigbuckifan Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 14th is not bad. As for the USC thing I dont know how they are either but I have a Felling they wont be #1 after next week. ;D Quote
frogtog Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Man I am so proud of ECU now if I could just get NCSU to win something would make me fill even better. : Quote
Super User 5bass Posted September 8, 2008 Super User Posted September 8, 2008 Man I am so proud of ECU now if I could just get NCSU to win something would make me fill even better. : I believe ECU plays NC State next week....who you pullin' for frogtog? Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 8, 2008 Super User Posted September 8, 2008 ECU deserves to be ranked but remember, we are in a marathron and not a sprint so two wins can be cancelled by two losses down the road. I like teams that play hard and with heart and that sure applies to the Pirates. ECU will be ranked this week and they should beat NCSU, unless they have a let down. And speaking of let downs, did anyone notice that it took a kickoff return and a blocked punt returned for a TD for Alabama to defeat hapless Toolame? And if you see the states the Green Wennies outplayed the mighty Tide. Isn't college football great? P.S. ECU has some great colors, too. ;D Quote
frogtog Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 fivebass I have always been a NCSU fan. Back then there was no such thing as ECU winning a football game. ECU is just a few miles down the road from me, so I will go with ECU but I will always wear my Red Hat. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted September 8, 2008 Super User Posted September 8, 2008 so I will go with ECU but I will always wear my Red Hat. Is that the same red hat you had on when we saw you at the Classic Expo? I'm pulling for ECU, the more ACC teams they can take out, the better. They have UVa after NC State. Should be 4-0 easily. Quote
preach4bass Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 That legendary "red hat" is a fish catching good luck charm. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted September 9, 2008 Super User Posted September 9, 2008 I think teams should not be ranked until after the fifth week. The only thing it does is give hype to early games. Teams graduate key players every year. Never the same team twice basically. Did Clemson look like a top ten team with 4 brand new offensive linemen starting for the first time? Maybe the incentive needed for teams that want to be ranked high for BCS purposes to schedule more meaning full games early on. Loved what ECU has done thus far. But what has VT WVU done based on this season to be ranked where they were. Its all based on past success. With no rankings until after the fifth week, then ECU has case of why they should be top 5 team. So would USC after beating Virginia, an actual BCS team and OSU. Like I said about South Carolina. They lost 6 of their last 7 games, and winning one game this year moved them up because they had most of their starters back on defense who stopped who last year? Or because Spurrier is their coach? Either way, it was biased and not deserved. Quote
