Hey there...

Will be fishing the Delta on Father's Day weekend and will be fishing crankbaits in timber so I need a square-bill CB that dives fairly shallow and deflects well off of wood. What is your bait for this situation?

The only bait I have that might fit the bill is a Poe's RC-1.

Color suggestions and other techniques to catch fish on the Delta would also be appreciated. I'm thinking of bringing buzzbaits, baby bass swimbait, and topwater. What else would you bring?

Thanks much

I love the RC series but also take a look at the Speed Trap baits.  They even have a bait color called Delta Craw though I'm sure it would be better probably prespawn.

I love the Bandit 200, but it isn't a square bill...

My favorite is the Bagley BB2 or BB3 in Late Spring Bream Color.  The box says it goes 0-4 feet, but I've gotten them deeper on lighter line.

IMO - - buy effective crankbaits - throw them in cover - and don't worry about what shape the bill is.   There is WAY more to the effectiveness and running characteristics of crankbaits than whether or not the bill is a "square."

Some of my best gnarly-stuff crankbaits have round lips, FWIW.  ;)

Ex....Bagley KB1

Some of my favorite crankbaits in life.....Big M "M-Flat" and signature flatside....both round lips....both murder.

All the baits mentioned are great baits and this is going to sound crazy to a lot of people on here but I really like Academy's H2O express square billed crankbait.  All I have used have caught fish, ran good out of box and deflected of cover well.  Plus, at 2.99 you can stock your box in a single trip and not worry on the rare ocassion you hang one up.  Plus, they have  a nice color selection.

Lucky Craft 1.5 on the Delta, no doubt.  I like using the Rick Clunn Purple Shad 1.5, and the Lucky Craft Fat CB in Mad Craw.  If you need any more help fishing the delta pm me.
