Super User Hookemdown. Posted August 30, 2008 Super User Posted August 30, 2008 Best game of the day so far. The others were duds. Quote

Welcome to the SEC..... Easy there FD, Hawaii lost their best player, several other key starters and I believe they lost the coach too. I do agree that they are no match for any SEC team though but Florida shouldn't be too proud of that win. And Burley, you're pushin' it pal! VT has some issues. #1 BY FAR would be the offensive coordinator #2 is the defense #3 QB (they will regret red-shirting Taylor) Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 30, 2008 Super User Posted August 30, 2008 LSU was a little shaky at times but done what they should have Quote
bmadd Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 We're gonna see Rocky Top shine here tonight. Gonna get a little revenge out west, even if it is on a UCLA team that seams to not be able to catch a break. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 1, 2008 Super User Posted September 1, 2008 Other than Mississippi State losing to Louisiana Tech, all SEC teams have won their opener so far. Today it is Tennessee and UCLA and Tennessee is expected to win that game. Just an observation. ;D Quote

bmadd Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 So as I'm watching the UT v. UCLA game, I'm a little concerned with my Volunteer's new Offensive coordinator and the time it's going to take Crompton to mature. I've got to give credit to the UCLA's DT. They're beasts and should dominate any offensive line in the nation. We returned every offensive lineman from last year and they only allowed 4 sacks last year...best in the nation by far. Maybe we can score one more time and pull this scary game out! Quote

In the past few years, Tenneesse has been the Mississippi State of the SEC East. Truly deplorable. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 It was a great opening weekend of college football. VT went down and that wasn't an upset in my book after seeing ECU play some last year and their final game against BSU. Neither was the Utah Michigan game. Utah is good. Loved the BGU win over Pitt, the only losing record from last year to be preseason ranked. Carl, Sorry about your Vols last night. Great respect for Tenn playing the likes of Cal two years and opening up against UCLA this year Hookem Quote
bmadd Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Tennessee being deplorable? Are you kidding me? How can you relate them to Mississippi State? Tennessee has had 3 losing seasons in the last 30 years. We are second in the east with most Eastern Titles won to Florida (9-6). We won the east last year. Sure it seems we underestimate our non-conference games but you can not relate Tennessee to Mississippi State. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 I want to hear Burley's take on the Tennessee game last night.....sure would be nice if he could wipe away the tears and give us some commentary. Thanks UCLA, the weekend is complete now! Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 No way an almighty SEC team could lose to a weak depleted little PAC 10 team could they? I mean the SEC is too strong. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 Hey tumnus....hang in there man. VT just announced that they are bringing back Tyrod Taylor. Beamer saw what a crappy team he put on the field against ECU and decided to bring Tyrod back. Quote
TheBeast Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 No way an almighty SEC team could lose to a weak depleted little PAC 10 team could they? I mean the SEC is too strong. And the big 12 has what room to talk??? On the Tennessee game though, we got outcoached plain and simple once again. On VolChat some are trying to blame Arian Foster for the one fumble inside the 10 which is ridiculous and should have been just another stat. Why would you continue to throw the ball 40+ times when you are clearly able to run the ball very effectively with 2 backs and your QB is clearly not on target at all. Nevermind the fact they wouldn't move him out of the pocket and he was getting the ball along with 1-3 bruins, and this with a veteran offensive line that gave up 4 sacks all last year. Then you can add on top of this a defensive coordinator who for the past 10 years has been apparentely oblivious to the fact that people can and will throw in the flats and short underneath routes. I can't even justify that statement. 9-4 and 10-4 over the last two seasons hardly qualifies as an embarrassment "to any conference" in Div. 1A. Say what you want, if you go back 5-6 years, you'll see clemson in04 or 05, Notre Dame the next two years, then Cal the next two season, and then UCLA. I respect good teams that show case how good they are or can be by playing better non-conference games. Tenn. displays that through scheduling. Hookem Quote

In all due respect, we big XII fans didn't open the thread of SEC has no Equal. I do agree with why they didn't run the ball more, they appeared to be effective when they did. But, truth be told, blame your veteran kicker or the coach for calling the play that set the ball up on the left hash mark to tie. He clearly had problems kicking with the angle last night. If you look at that thread I even said the the SEC is probably the best conference right now. It's just the gap that SEC fans think is between them and 2nd is ridiculous .... and quite frankly really annoying. It's not just here either. It's on every sports website around. And SEC fan's favorite target seems to be the PAC 10. So yeah it was great to see a weak depleted PAC 10 team take down an almighty powerful SEC team. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted September 2, 2008 Super User Posted September 2, 2008 And as for the weak Pac 10 They are 10-6 against the SEC the last 16 meetings. Thus, my only wish, is for ALL Conferences to play better caliber teams. I'm a fan of college football, I'd rather see BCS teams play BCS teams. Why wouldn't you as a fan of football not want to see power house games every weekend? How long does the fan have to wait to see Florida and Texas play a couple of years, home and home series? Who wouldn't we want to see one of the winningest programs in football, Tenn and Michigan play a couple of times? alabama and OU. Thats college football at its best if you ask me. How about Georgia and USC, Notre Dame and LSU, As a Longhorn fan, I waited approx 40 years to see Texas and Michigan hook up and that was due to BCS obligations. What a great game it was. Blow outs are boring, period. Quote
