Amen to that Muddy, keep us posted fellas, prayers sent.

Gustav looks unhappy. Last I heard it may go down to a 3 by the time it hits but, the force when it hits may still be a 5 :-/

Last Friday my wife flew into Lafayette and then drove to Pensacola with her sister to attend a family function.  They are planning on driving back tomorrow - unless I can convince them to park their butts for a couple of days.

Cajun friend in Houma moved his boat under the carport and filled her up with water; boarded the windows; drove both cars to friend's home in Kenner; then they took one car and headed north.

Friends and family in New Orleans and Metarie have already moved out to Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, Georgia and Florida.

I sincerely hope the levees hold.

Thanks for the website, lugar306. I will watch it along with the Weather Underground site.

Tomorrow should be interesting to say the least. I live < 10 miles from Mobile bay. As long as this storm maintains its projected path, we will be fine. I have plenty of food and gas for the generator. I think I'm going to sit outside with a cooler  of frosty beverages and marvel in mother's nature's unrelenting power.

Luger, thanks for the input. I'm in Tulsa and am safe. It's my wife and sister-in-law I'm concerned about. Thankfully, they had the good sense to stay in Pensacola, instead of trying to drive to Rayne.

It's forward movement just slowed by 1mph, if that trend keeps going it could get a little stronger.

My family drove back to Rayne from Pensecola today.  Everything was OK with their home when they got back.  The electricity came back on about an hour ago.  My wife is flying in tonight.  All's well.

OMG Y'ALL

Let me start off by saying this Cajun will never evacuate again or I'll leave 2 days early and then I'll not head out anywhere near New Orleans. I came within a hair of not leaving to start with but after considering all the options and the fact we had my 20 month old and 4 year old grandkids to consider the choice was easy. Y'all can read about it and even watch it on TV but until you're in it y'all can't imagine. We left Lake Charles, Louisiana at 9:00 AM headed for Cleveland, Tennessee, some 13 hour later I was standing on the side of the road still not in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. We drove from 40 miles west of Meridian, Mississippi to just west of Birmingham, Alabama at 0-40 mph and as I stood on the side of the road I told Carol that's it I aint gonna make it to Cleveland my back is dead.

For hurricane Rita I drove from Lake Charles to Baton Rouge which is normally a 2 hour drive, it took 10 hours. But not like Rita I came home yesterday after with absolutely no damage what so ever. We drove home yesterday and again it was 12 hrs 15 min for a 7-8 hour trip, next time I'm taking Carol's idea and leaving 1 or 2 days earlier and making it a vacation for 5 or 6 days and relaxing instead of an evacuation.

Gene I'm sorry for not calling but although I wasn't that busy just wore out  ;)

I still cannot get through the NOLA cell phone lines to contact family and friends.

I tried calling LSU but no one answered at the Alumni Association and my friend's cell line just rang and rang and rang.

No idea if the power is off in Baton Rouge but heard that half of NOLA is without power and no one is being allowed back at this time.

I am trying to find out if Jefferson Parish is open and has power.

Glad everyone is OK.

I'm glad everyone is ok and safe at home. Catt don't worry about not calling.

We've got the next one pointing our direction right now so we'll see what happens next. Unfortunately I couldn't evacuate if I needed to. I have to stay and work.
