I'm thinking about getting a fish tank and wanted to see what I'm getting into first. I want to get somewhere around 55 gallon I think.

Is this OK to put in an upstairs room?

I guess I just want some things to lookout for from the ppl who have them.

Thanks!

I dont see a problem with putting a 55 gallon upstairs...but like everyone else here, I am not an expert.  I would recommend posting your questions on a forum geared toward fishing tanks/aquariums.

Nobody has advice for me???

I would like to have a section of land inside and the rest water...can this be done with any tank?

Should I buy new or used...there are a ton for sale on craigslist pretty cheap.

Send Raul a PM, he has experience with all aspects of aquarium maintenance.

Good luck!

I got some advice for you. Don't get a fishtank of that size and defininatly don't put it on carpet or upstairs. My last one was 30 gals. When I came home one day the fish were laying on the carpet, the carpet was stained with the colored pebbles, and the front panel was in a 1000 pieces. It took several visits by Service Master to get most of the color out of the carpet, but some they never could-replaced it with a laminated floor.

Fish tanks, no thanks.

Been keeping saltwater fish for almost 15 years now. When we lived on the 3rd floor in Providence I had my 90 gallon set up. No big deal....

If you own the home, you could check with the builder if the upper floor can hold the weight.

If you rent, better check with the landlord first.

Doubtful you'd want a saltwater tank, as it's more maintenance vs. freshwater.

Best place to go for advice is a place where they specialize in fish tanks (not the local pet store).  Look for someplace that focuses on "home aquariums".

Bottom line: do your homework and you'll be fine.
