bait4me Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 I like both baits but which one do you like better. The tail on the swimming senko looks like it would tear off in easily. Also tell me how you rig a swimming senko. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 29, 2008 Super User Posted May 29, 2008 The tail of the Swimming Senko never tears, the bait tears around the hook contact, both front and middle. The Swimming Senko is most effective in and around cover, especially grasses. This is a bait for active bass. Although many guys have great luck fishing the bait weightless, Gary Yamamoto suggests a 1/4 oz screw-in weight to maximize tail action. The Senko is an entirely different animal that has been discussed to death, so I'll stop here. 8-) Quote
Super User Tin Posted May 29, 2008 Super User Posted May 29, 2008 Why is someone with the name of Zoom Baits, asking about Yamamoto baits? ;D Quote
Captain Chaos II Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 I voted senko but like the swimming senko too. I tie those on usually when I lose patience with the senko.... Quote
Super User Micro Posted May 29, 2008 Super User Posted May 29, 2008 I am a Johnny-come-lately to Swim Senkos. I bought a bag of 5" watermelon colored swims about a year ago and just got around to trying them. I tried them last week on two consecutive days. I fished them in the corridors that wound through huge, thick lilypad patches. I fished them weightless, t-rigged on a 3/0 Gammy EWG hook. I used my spinnerbait set-up - a 6'8" MH/F and 14# mono, Revo SC 7.1:1. I threw them on the edges of the pads, into deadends, onto slop, in the weeds. I used a steady moderate speed retrieve (too slow and they have too little action). Weightless, they will run about 6-8" under the surface with the rod tip parallel to the water - which is important for me due to the type of water I fish. It turned out to be an extremely productive technique. I NEVER lost a tail. Like RW said, they tear first where they contact the hook. I voted for the swim senko, but that's only because it's my favorite right this minute. That will probably change next time I try something that tears 'em up. I'm wishy washy that way. I've torn them up on regular senkos, too, and they were my favorite then. It was the Quote
wisturkeyhunter Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 I've caught fish on both but have more confidence in the senko but thats cause I've used it alot more. Both work. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted May 30, 2008 Super User Posted May 30, 2008 Swim senkos are a joke, and they just plain out look, act, rig, goofy as hell. Everyone is entitled to their opinion or whatever baits give em confidence. Quote

He must be using the Wimming Wenko, a cheap chinese copy made out of melted rubber bands. My swim senkos performed as advertised. Actually, better than I expected. Quote
wagn Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 i voted for senko, i've had luck w/ swimming senko's but find that the tails warped for me in the package i had and after that would never run true. I tried the hot water trick to re-form them, but they just never were the same. maybe i got a bad batch, i don't know Quote
George Welcome Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 "You are not rigging it correctly. George Welcome fishes the Swimming Senko with some success down your way." Right now the Swimming Senko is accounting for 50-100 bass per day on most days. Tails warped? Won't run true? The bait is supposed to be erratic, not run like a submarine on a wire. Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 GW- Are you still throwing the original as much? If you could choose 1, for business purposes, which would you have on the boat? I've yet to throw one personally. Anyone other than GYCB make 'em yet? Quote
George Welcome Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 From the point of more water covered, the Swimming Senko outperforms the Senko. On that basis alone, the Swimming Senko is going to produce more fish. Things other than the obvious differences: The Swimming Senko is made of a tougher formula and will out last a Senko. We average far more fish per bait with the Swimming Senko. The bait requires a different rigging because of the difference in texture, in order to get a sound hook set. We Tex-pose and skin hook the bait as well as use weight in most applications. We use a bigger hook for the Swimming Senko: 4/0 EWG. We seldom hop or drag the Swimming Senko. We vary the speed of retrieve based on depth of water and the day's preference that we get from the bass's feedback. The hit is similar to that of a slow-rolled spinner bait in that many times there is just an increased resistance against the retrieve. Although both baits have their more appropriate time of usage, the Swimming Senko will fit more windows of opportunity. NOTE: This bait is designed to run in an erratic fashion. The twisting is part of what makes it perform as well as it does. Quote
-BassMasterBling- Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 I do like the swimming senko but not more than i like the original. So far the swimming senko is great for coverin large area. but theres still nothin like the orgiinal Quote
Super User Micro Posted May 31, 2008 Super User Posted May 31, 2008 We use a bigger hook for the Swimming Senko: 4/0 EWG. I was using a 3/0. I'll try a 4/0 next time out. The hit is similar to that of a slow-rolled spinner bait in that many times there is just an increased resistance against the retrieve. That was EXACTLY my experience. Each time it felt like I picked up a huge wad of grass. Quote
Cory20 Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 I went out yesterday and fished the swimming senko (1/8 oz screw in bullet, 4/O hook) while my buddy fished the original senko. He was out fishing me 5 to 1! Seemed like everytime I looked over his line was jumping. They just weren't that interested in the swimming version on that day. I can't wait until the grass grows up, I think that's when this bait will really shine. Had one come back without a tail, obviously pickerel. Quote
Pigsticker Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 The swimming senko IMO is a more exciting way to fish, I love fishing senkos and throw them more than anything else (90% of the time)but have started to stop using them completely. Even working a senko quickly on a wacky rig does not beat swimming a swimming senko The SS is a fantastic grass edge/cover edge and is excellant when there is sparse cover and you do not want a senko sitting in unproductive areas for 30 secs or longer. for catching fish, swim senko but for larger fish, senko but if only active bass are biting always a SS. I voted the swim senko just for its abilitiy to produce numbers (we already know senkos will catch big bass Quote
rondef Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Swim senkos work great with weights or weightless. They are my go to plastic because they catch fish and some nice size ones. Quote
Bassaholic84 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I voted for the senko just for the fact when nothing else is working its one of my confidence lures. I like the swimming senko but havent has enough experience to vote for it over the senko Quote
