Super User Redlinerobert Posted July 28, 2008 Super User Posted July 28, 2008 It's a tourbillon, the casing I think is actually kind of cool. What bothers me is all of those people that died because of this hull. Oh yeah, and the $173,000 price tag. http://www.romainjerome.com/en/les-inatendus/cabestan-ocean-pacifique-en.aspx Quote
Super User Micro Posted July 28, 2008 Super User Posted July 28, 2008 Buy it. It's OK. Hell, I've got some granite countertops made out of people's headstones. Seriously, though. It's a nice looking watch. But it seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong with using parts of that ship in that manner. Sort of like making a watch out of the girders of the WTC. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted July 29, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 29, 2008 If I was in the market for a watcht that cost $175k, I'd rather get a watch that's proven to go up in value, like a Patek 5970. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 Well, if it's made from the hull of the Titanic, I would think that it would be prone to rusting. Who wants to pay $173K for a watch that will rust? Quote
daviscw Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Do people really wear watches these days? Seriously... With cell phones, iPods, and blackberries, who really needs a watch? Granted, I could see the whole Titanic collectors edition thing, but other than that... Quote

frogtog Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Still trying to figure out if it's a good investment. You go ahead and get one Robert and let me know how it does. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 one thing is for certain, it WILL sink. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 Ugly as sin, but the cool factor is off the charts. Quote
WIII-60 Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Maybe they can build a case for it out of salvaged wood from homes destroyed by hurricane katrina. This proves that advertising can make self-important rich people buy anything. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 Maybe they can build a case for it out of salvaged wood from homes destroyed by hurricane katrina. Man, that would definitely sell me on it. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Personally, I think it's a mean watch and metals can be sealed to stop the oxidation process. The problem with it is that it is attracted to ice. Wear it at a party and hope noone gets too close with a frozen mudslide cause your arm will shoot out and smash the glass..... Being from the Titanic is fitting though, because if you can swing a 175k watch, you are probably ready to shout,...."I'm on top of the woooorld....." Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted July 29, 2008 Super User Posted July 29, 2008 I'm one of those people that has to wear a watch. I feel naked without my TAG. Hey Matt, I thought I was the only person that carried two pocket knives. Falcon Quote
TheBeast Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I'm one of those people that has to wear a watch. I feel naked without my TAG. Hey Matt, I thought I was the only person that carried two pocket knives. Falcon But I also carry two pocket knives. Same here, allways have two with me. Also carry and Olfa knife in my shirt pocket. As for the watch, I am not real sure it looks pretty neat but it is quite ugly. I did look at some of the others on the site and they do have some sweet timepieces. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted July 29, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 29, 2008 Lol. This one is funny. You can't wear it because the rusting metal has not been stabilized. http://www.romainjerome.com/en/les-inatendus/t-oxy-concept-en.aspx Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted July 29, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 29, 2008 And this one only tells you if it's day or night. No hours or minutes. I know people that could actually use this watch. http://www.romainjerome.com/en/les-inatendus/day-and-night-en.aspx Quote
Big Tom Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Day and Night watch... lol It looks really neat though. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted July 29, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 29, 2008 This one I'd wear. But I don't think these watches will hold their value. http://www.romainjerome.com/en/collection/collection.aspx Quote
Big Tom Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 That one is a really awesome watch. I am way too hard on watches. I am clumsy and they end up getting battered so I try to keep it pretty cheap. I love the way they look though. Quote

bchlr Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 imagine buying a car that was involved in a fatal accident. I wouldnt even think of it, letting alone actually buy it and use it, even if that's a lamborghini with the $2000 price tag. Quote
