Super User Root beer Posted July 20, 2008 Super User Posted July 20, 2008 What you guys think of window vista? I bought this laptop in Feburary and it crashed twice on me. It crash 2 days ago stating my window vista key was invaild... I finally restored it to factory setting. So is it vista crashing my computer or is it a website with a serious bug that causing it? I ran a virus scan about a day or two before it crashed and I had no known virus or spyware on my computer. I'm thinking just selling this laptop and just get me a Mac with the leopard operating softwares. What you guys think I should do? Or give vista another try? P.S. I didnt download any random programs nor did I download music on this computer in all of it's 5 months I've had it. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted July 20, 2008 Super User Posted July 20, 2008 It's not the computers fault. Get rid of Vista and have XP installed. I don't kow all the technicalities of it, but Vista is quirky. I know a lot of people that are not happy with it and went back to XP. jmo. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted July 20, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 20, 2008 That brings me to another question. Can a good computer technician get rid of vista off my computer completely? I know it not computer fault this is an awesome computer (had it customize) but the program is ticking me off. I feel like I'm flirting with disaster with vista. I was considering getting a mac. Super User Hookemdown. Posted July 20, 2008 Super User Posted July 20, 2008 My next computer WILL be a mac. Quote

YOU can get rid of vista on your computer, it is actually pretty easy, but make sure you have XP(or other operating system) ready to install. Quote
Evan Pease Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 The only thing good about Vista is that Halo 2 is out for it but XP is way better Quote
Super User Root beer Posted July 20, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 20, 2008 Will the Mac OS. Leopard work on my dell? Or is it for mac only? Quote
daviscw Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 I love my Vista. I would never consider trading it for a Mac. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted July 20, 2008 Super User Posted July 20, 2008 Go with an open source OS, they are free, stable, and you can get apps for free. If sticking with Windows the first thing to change is dump IE for Firefox, load *** and no script..... Quote
Super User Root beer Posted July 20, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 20, 2008 If sticking with Windows the first thing to change is dump IE for Firefox, load *** and no script..... Dad told me get rid of internet explorer. Is that one reason? I'm thinking of sticking with vista one more time, try find way get rid of some bugs and get rid of IE, etc. Because I had my security really tight. Quote
quant PT Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 My next computer WILL be a mac. Good call. You will not be disappointed. It's nice to be a Mac user instead of a PC repairman. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Don't worry mac people your day will come. The more people who use mac the more virus' that will be made to target mac. If the mac was that good nobody would be dual booting windows on their mac. My windows vista home premium laptop runs great. I have had it for about 7 months and still no problems with the os or finding drivers for it. Quote

There are at least 1 or 2 Mac viruses out there. This school year his Mac broke down more than my Dell with Vista and I only use IE. Another thing to consider, for school when we had to turn assignments in online, and present powerpoints in front of class, it was always a huge hassle because of the Mac users files not converting right, or not showing up right on the screen. I love my Ipod, but I will never buy a Mac. Quote
Super User Micro Posted July 21, 2008 Super User Posted July 21, 2008 Too much proprietary stuff on Macs. Very stable, and less virus prone. But they are less virus prone because far fewer people use them and they are not the standard in commerce. PC with Windows is the standard, that's why hackers concentrate on them. Also, far less software available for Macs. Quote
TopDog Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Im running Vista too. No issues whatsoever. I do use Firefox though...And IE when Firefox does not want to play nice on some sites. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 if you are having virus/adware/spyware problems get avg 8 and spybot you will be good to go. Quote
