Super User Wayne P. Posted July 9, 2008 Super User Posted July 9, 2008 Just on the news was some shots of Iran's missle tests with a comment from them about using them against American bases and Israel if prevoked. A popular statement that originated in a move came to mind when I heard that."Go ahead Punk, make my day" Quote
fishbear Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 You would think they would get the hint we do not mess around with countries like them. However, we would be stretched very thin to open a Third military front right now, and they know it. That said, I still put my money on the boys and girls from the good ole USA! Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Yup but it shot oil prices up around $1.40 a barrel :-/ I also dont think we are the ones Iran will have to worry about. Isreal doesnt put up with alot of crap. Quote

That entirely depends on what type of warhead was on the missle they fired. If it's the wrong type, PFFT..they will be history. Quote

Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 10, 2008 Super User Posted July 10, 2008 Don't you guys think we have got enough wars going on right now?????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Quote
mattm Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I'm not saying we would lose by any means, but invading Iran tommorow would be disasterous. If it gets to the point that action is necessary it will almost certainly be a big air campaign and no troops. Isreal ain't doing anything big without us either. They don't have any allies in that part of the world, and will need backing for the inevitable muslim backlash. Quote

Isreal doesnt put up with alot of crap. true ..but isreal was having a problem fighting with hezbollah and hezbollah aint even a country in many ways, that makes it a more difficult battle. I haven't heard about these new tests, but I doubt Iran will have anything that can do much harm to the US for a while. And I agree, Israel won't hesitate to act and would probably do so before the US tries to. I think we should get something done about Iran sooner rather than later... Quote

Super User Hookemdown. Posted July 11, 2008 Super User Posted July 11, 2008 WW3 Yep, that about sums it up. Does this fall into the category of religion/politics? LBH is busy watching Teletubbies : Quote
KYbass1276 Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Does this fall into the category of religion/politics? My god why not just shut down the whole section everything else, I see nothing wrong with this thread everyone is just talking and giving opinions not attacking each other. Whether you like it or not this little issue has a direct impact on our daily lives including fishing. If something starts up in Iran then oil prices are going to soar even higher and you won't be able to afford to even think about going fishing. I for one like seeing what other peoples opinions are. This is a very important issue for us all let it keep going nobody is being disrespectful. : Quote
KYbass1276 Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 WW3 Actually I was under the impression that Israel would just flat out stomp them on there own without any help from us, I was told we are the ones who hold Isreal back from doing it anyway don't know how true that is but I guess you bring up a good point though if that happens it would be ww3 anyways Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted July 11, 2008 Super User Posted July 11, 2008 Israel can take on anybody. However, if a war starts between Israel and Iran, it's not just going to stay between Israel and Iran. ALLIANCES cause world wars and nothing brings people together like religion Quote

Super User firefightn15 Posted July 11, 2008 Super User Posted July 11, 2008 Don't forget whos fleet that is sitting on the strait of Hormuz. Ours. and that was our Rear Admiral last week tha made the comment that any action of war in the Strait by Iran would be met with naval retalliation. I don't know about anyone else, but the middle east as a whole scares the hell out of me right now. One wrong move by any one and your gonna wish for the days of $4 gas. Just my opinion. ff15 Quote
Brian_Reeves Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 WW3 I sincerely doubt that. Iran would be 1991 all over again, missiles or not. If you can't control the air, you can't survive on the ground. And I think those F-14s that Iran has are a bit older than those shiney, sexy F-22's. I'd re-enlist for the invasion of Iran, personally. Quote

Brian_Reeves Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 War is simple. We got that part down. Marines, Navy, Airforce, and Army...we're all pretty darned good at what we do. It's the political aftershock of war that we insist on being involved with for some reason that complicates matters. At least we don't have to worry about a huge invasion force and where to come from. Iran is surrounded by Coalition forces to the east and west. And people wonder why they are jumpy. Regardless of who they decide to shoot that missile at, if anyone, it will play out very, very badly for Iran. If they decide to hit one of our fleets or our troops, then they will involve themselves in something that they THINK they are ready for, but surely are not. Each US Fleet has more missiles and planes than what people realize. Each Submarine can carry enough conventional explosives to wipe out entire militaries...that's not even counting nukes. If Iran decides to shoot at Israel, then hod help Tehran. I think that this is just a bit of barking, nothing more. I doubt that even Iran has the gall to openly challenge the US military, this time with the backing of the United Nations. Quote
