Super User 5bass Posted July 6, 2008 Super User Posted July 6, 2008 Anybody else see this fight tonight? I thought Forrest was done when Rampage dropped him in the first round with the uppercut but he ended up getting out of the round in classic Forrest Griffin fashion. Then the second round was all Griffin after he just about broke Jackson's leg with a kick. Rounds 3, 4 & 5 were pretty much just stick and move by both fighters and Forrest is now the new Light Heavyweight Champ by unanimous decision. He deserves it, he's come a long way. Good fight. Overall the whole card tonight was pretty good. Anderson Silva fights next on Spike (free show) in 2 weeks and is moving up to 205 just to find some competition since he's pretty much mowed thru the whole 185 division. He'll be fighting the likes of Griffin, Irvin, Rampage, Chuck Liddell etc.... Quote
rfrazier Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Was at the giants game so i missed it. I got a bet in on Griffin tho. Sounds like it was a good fight... you had to like griffins in a 5 round fight. The guy never quits and rampage is not in good enough shape to hang. Quote
Aaron Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I missed the fight (no PPV for me). All my friends thought Rampage would mop the floor with Griffin but I am not surprised that Griffin won. He can take a beating so I thought it could go either way. I am pumped for the Silva fight. Quote
heathen Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I agree FBL, it was a great night of fights. My favorite fight of the night was Tyson Griffin Vs. Marcus Aurelio. I still am not convinced Cote won his fight. Chris Lytle sure did take a beating and still continued somehow and I thought in the waining seconds was going to KO Josh Koscheck. All and All one of the better UFC's in awhile as far as solid fighting top to bottom. Quote
BadKarma42 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 That's pretty interesting...I kinda thought Rampage would take him. Although I am happy for Forrest. What was Rampage's reaction(s) after the fight? Quote
heathen Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 What was Rampage's reaction(s) after the fight? Very humble in defeat, congratulated Forest, and said he got his butt whipped. A truely classy post fight interview and didnt make any excuses. Just said that he got beat. I never liked Rampage, but after his post fight interview, I have gained more respect for him. Quote
basser89 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I can't believe I forgot about the fight! :-[ I've been a fan of Forrest ever since he won the Ultamite Fighter so I'm glad he won! Now, I just have to see if someone DVR'd it! LOL Quote

I liked Rampage before, found him very entertaining. After watching that post fight interview, I have even more respect for him. He surprised me with his reaction in a very good way.....big props to him. Chris Lytle is a BEAST (even in defeat)!!! If you can lose that much blood and still be swinging for the fences and intelligently defending yourself, ya either got some serious guts or some serious issues. Either way, as a fan I like it. Ky_Lake_Dude Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 i love how on Friday night Rampage was on ESPN for an interview and he called Griffin not a challenge at all and that he was gonna walk away with an easy victory and then he goes and gets beat Quote
Super User 5bass Posted July 7, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 7, 2008 Yeah, Lytle lost a lot of blood in his fight. If you saw them wiping the cut between rounds, it looked like he'd been shot right above his eye. There are some pics of the fights on MSN Sports/MMA and they show a great pic of the mat where Kos was taking it to Lytle. Massive amount of blood on the mat. Scary. http://msn.foxsports.com/boxing/pgStory?contentId=8316060#sport=Boxing&photo=8315412 Joe Stevenson got lucky catching that dude in the guillotine choke. That guy was wearing him out in the first round and came real close to ripping his arm off. Melvin Guillard straight up took his guy out in what, 30 seconds? That guy had NO chance.....and when he got knocked down the first time, he should've stayed down cause the second time he got dropped was way worse than the first. What's everybody's opinion about Silva moving up to 205? Can he hang? Will he get worked over by the bigger guys? Can he win the 205 belt? Either way, I'm glad he's making the jump. Quote
Aaron Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I think he can hang, and given time maybe even contend. I have heard his normal weight is around 215 so he won't be dropping too much. I can't wait for that fight. EliteXC is having a free fight the weekend after UFC Fight Night. I hope it is better than the last one. Quote
mike bat Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 yea i thought Rampage was going to take this fight ,,,, i was wrong ... but Forrest was smart and faught this fight smart .... Forrest really dictated the fight with that leg kick .... as far as the exchanges i really believe Rampage won almost every striking exchange .... there was a couple times in the fight rampage stopped forrest dead in his tracks with a powerful strike ,,, even backed him up on a couple .... Rampage should have checked those kicks .... as for rampage not being able to go 5 rounds he did in this fight and also the fight with hendo .... theres no doubt in my mind about Rampage and training .... im sure due to the contract rampage will get the rematch before any one els gets to fight forrest .... the crazy fight on this card was the KOS fight ,,, i never seen anyone bleed like that before .... that was crazy ... Either way, I'm glad he's making the jump. Ha can he hang at 205? I'd bet good money that he could beat the so called champ at 205 forrest griffin right now. Quote

Mental imaging goes a long way. Quote
Crabcakes Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 . It was a very good fight. I think rampage's leg hurt him alot more than he let on. After that he never really had the same power in his punches and movement. He limped out of the cage pretty bad. I really can't figure out how the judges scored that fight. I saw it as a 47-47 draw. Really don't agree with 49-46 49-46 48-46. I sure didn't see a fight where griffin won 4 rounds. Not saying Forrest didn't deserve to win, he executed his strategy very well and didn't get caught up swinging with rampage. I'm surprised no one else said something about this. At the bar I was at the general opinion was Rampage won 48-47 or it was a 47-47 draw. As for Silva he can probably run through alot of the lower end 205ers but up at the top I think he'll have trouble with many of the bigger fighters. I don't think he'll be in quite as good a shape at 205. He's not going to putting on alot of muscle considering he's still going to fight at 185. He probably just won't cut and he'll look about the same with a little more water and fat. He's going to be giving up like 15-20lbs to some of these guys on fight night and he won't have the same advantages his long body length gives him against bigger fighters Quote
Boett43 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I think silva will easy handle his own moving up in weight class. Whens hes not on a trainin routine hes body weight is supposed to be around 215 if i heard correctly. So i anything he could be even better in this weight class wich is just scary haha Quote
mike bat Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 ever since the Bonnar/Griffin bloodbath ; i will NEVER count either one of those two guys out. I've seen Rampage bring some lackluster performances, but Griffin, NEVER. Rampage picks one guy up and drops him on his head; and they replay that over, and over, and over. Rampage obviously took Forrest too I didn't see the fight, but i saw the writing on the wall. oh.... I searched it earlier, and Rampage was guaranteed a couple hundred thousand to Forrest's 60 thousand, but Griffin caught up to him with his 'win bonus'. Crazy that the loser (aka 'champ') gets paid more than the winner...... (crazy in hindsight, i mean) b wooo ... lets not get carried away here ,,, 1st rampage was and is still a champ ... he got in the ring / cage with the best of the best and won more times then not .... i dont even want to get into the fact that the pide organization has some of the best fighters out there .... also ask your self why does Dana White always go after Pride fighters ??? ill tell ya to get the better fighters over in the ufc ... so lets not get carried away ,,, im not tryin to take anything from forest at all ,,, but the fact of the matter is hes not the best 205 out there .... hes a good 205 but not the best ,.... IMO he had a good night and beat the champ ... thats it ,,, kinda like when matt serra beat GSP ,,,, no love loss but serra got lucky .... Rampage will get the rematch ,,, after the loss i bet he has the answer ... and if he loses again then griffen will lose the belt to the likes of jarden ( who has already beat him ) or chuck or hendo or wanderlay ( who some would say is the best at 205 bar none ,,, he also beat rampage twice ) or even rashad ..... if this happens geuss who will come along to ****** that belt back ,,, thats right Rampage ... also after reading your post i will tell you rampage did in fact drop more than one guy on his head ,,,, it was more like 7 guys ,,,, dont quote me but it was way more than 1 .... again i dont wanna take anything away from forrest ,,, he faught a smart fight and won ....thats just life and thats what i enjoy about the fight game ,,, you win some and lose some ... but to say rampage is anything other than one of the best 205s to grace the cage /ring is silly .... see rampage faught the best of the best that pride and ufc had to offer ,,, as said before he won more times than not ... Quote
Super User 5bass Posted July 9, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 9, 2008 ps. it's Dana's job to seek out the best fighters constantly, as is Pride's, WEC's and the like. Pride and WEC are both owned by the UFC. Pride probably did have the best fighters at one time because their tournaments were so much different that they drew the best fighters from every country. The UFC is where the money is at now. If you're looking to just sit back and see some great MMA fighting, I think the WEC's got 'em all beat. And someone mentioned Wanderlei Silva being the best 205.....he was at one time (in his Pride days).....but he's not done much lately except ram his face and head into Chuck Liddell's right hand. I'd like to see WS get back to his old ways...he was unbeatable. Quote
mike bat Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 i would like to point somthing out here .... all the pride fighters that come to the ufc have lost there 1st fight ... some say its a hard adjustment fighting in the cage .... since ive been watching i believe rampage was the olny fighter to come from pride and win his first ufc fight ,,,, that fight wasnt rampages best fight eighter .... i watched hendo come over here and get mobbed on ,,,, also wanderlay .... bolth guys are better fighters IMO .... now wanderlay has his first ufc win under his belt ,,, watch out dont let him get too used to winning .... if wanderlay gets a couple more wins he will be right in the mix ..... TN basstracker Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 As a friend of mine, I had to pull for Rampage. Hated to see him lose, because that's one thing he hated to do. We both played on the Varsity baseball team in high school, and the locker room wasn't a good place to be in when we lost a ball game. I know alot of people don't care for him, but in reality, Quentin would give you the shirt off his back if it came down to it. Quote
