Korea_Bassin Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 There are lots of things you can do with any degree. There are a lot of places that will hire you just for a degree regardless of what the degree is in. What the degree shows them is determination and ability to learn new concepts. They will teach you what it is that they want you to know, but by having the degree you have demonstrated that you are capable of learning something new. That's not to say you can become a brain surgeon with a degree in art, but you get my point. Another option that you may want to consider is joining the military. They will pay 100% of your tuition while on active duty as well as providing you with additional educational benefits to use after leaving the military. And thanks to the bill passed last month in congress, any of those benefits that you don't use after leaving the military can now be passed on to your dependents (for ten years after leaving the military). Another good thing the military will do for you is to provide you additional time to discover yourself and decide what it is you do want to do with your future. Who knows, you might even decide that you like the military and want to stay there. I joined up for a four year stint to take some time away from college and retired 22 years later with a degree to boot and am now two years into my second career. I'm not trying to recruit you...it's nothing to me either way. And I'm not saying the military is for everyone because it most definitely is not. I'm just suggesting another option that you may want to think about. Good luck in whatever you choose. Quote
hjerk24 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I struggled with this...then followed my passion...sports. I got a Health and Pe degree...and now I have Summers off to fish, and spend time with my family. Time off is priceless...just my 2 cents. It took me a while to listen to my heart, but now, after 14 years of teaching and coaching...I wouldn't trade it for the World! God Bless- and Good Luck! Jamie Quote
Super User Tin Posted July 9, 2008 Super User Posted July 9, 2008 I know what you mean. Went/still going through it right now. I have my mind 99.9% made up. All I can say is keep banging out Gen Eds and one day it will hit you. Quote
Aaron Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I was in a similar situation when i graduated HS (2004). All through high school I wanted to be an IT guy, then the last semester of my Sr. year I got co-op in the IT field and decided I did not want to do that for a living. I ended up going going to community college for two years and got my A.S degree and knocked out all of my gen ed's. By the time I finished community college I had a pretty good handle on what I wanted to do so I transferred to a university and got into the Occupational Safety & Health field. Now I am in a program that has some of the top companies in the coutnry coming in to interview student's for internships and graduates for full-time placement. Just keep your eyes and ears open and look at multiple possibilites. By the time you get most of the gen ed's knocked out you will have a beter idea of where you want to go. I have met a lot of people that are back in school because they got degrees that didn't suit them and are now trying to get a degree that can lead to a good job. Quote

Thanks in advance for the Help I am a President of a small company and do not have a degree. A business management degree will serve more purposes then just owning your own business. In the manufacturing sector in which our company is part of, it is changing to the point that companies are being bought out by either private investors or larger companies. These folks do need someone to run their company. You do not necessarily have to own your own company to manage one and make a good living. I think you should consider this type of degree, most importantly follow your passion, when all else fails this will not. GOOD LUCK and much success, get to college and enjoy. Quote
