brgbassmaster Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 sorry guys i just need to vent to some fisherman. haha i am so tired of this base Holloman afb. i LOVE to bass fish i am so obsessed with it. but the problem is that the closest lake is 2 hrs away and that costs alot of money to drive that far. be thankful that alot of you guys have lakes close by. and it doesnt help that where my brother is stationed he has tons of lakes 15 minutes from him and a lake on base so he always has to say that not meaning to make me upset. before i couldnt wait to get out of michigan now i cant wait to go back to my 30 lakes in 30 minutes. i am trying to leave here but so far no bases are coming up. its getting really depressing around here when i get home from work i go from computer to xbox, computer to xbox back and forth. when i was back home it was fishing everyday. but i thought i would vent. but also dont get me wrong the military does take care of you, but of course they dont know your needs or wants. Low_Budget_Hooker Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 I feel for you man. This is another sacrifice you guys are making on our behalf. Thanks. I wish you could fish bud. :-/ Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted July 6, 2008 Super User Posted July 6, 2008 My home lake is Sam Rayburn. Two and a half hours to the ramp. Never worried about it. I just go fishing. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 6, 2008 Super User Posted July 6, 2008 Fishing is a mental escape from the world. So you have to drive two hours. So what? Isn't it worth it at least once every few weeks? Can you find any ponds in any housing subdivisions or office parks? Check out a map of the County for ponds, too. Also, any places to fish in Onlee, Boles Acres, Alamegordo, Mountain Park, Dog Canyon Estates or Dunes? Any hidden ponds that the pilots can tell that they saw or that they can be on the lookout as they fly the Raptors and Talons? And thanks for being in the Air Force. You are a special guy and we all appreciate what you are doing to help make us safe here at home. Quote

Super User firefightn15 Posted July 7, 2008 Super User Posted July 7, 2008 That sucks, sorry for your dilemma. I imagine that you can't just pick up and go anytime you want either. You usually sound pretty upbeat here on the forum, maybe with one of Sams's suggestions, and your " cando" attitude, you'll figure something out. Good luck! I hope you do. ff15 By the way, weren't you working on your trailer bearings? How'd you do? Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted July 7, 2008 Super User Posted July 7, 2008 Try pulling up your area in Google Earth. I've found several local ponds that I never knew existed. It probably won't be much, but it could save you gas and give you a place to wet your line. Quote
brgbassmaster Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 i know of some trout ponds in the mountains but there pay to fish ponds. but there is one that isnt a pay to fish pond i guess i will have to go up there and try it sometime.. like i said i am obsessed with bass fishing not trout lol but i guess i cant be picky...oh and thanks firefightn ya i bought my bearings and bearing grease so when i do change them out i just havent done it yet. i did change out my plugs put some stabil in my gas and cleaned my boat out. just trying to keep myself busy. thanks for the replies guys. oh haha i also found a wad of fishing line in my trolling motor prop that might be why it wasnt working exactly right. Top Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I feel your pain... when I was stationed at fort irwin I was in the middle of the Mojave DESERT.. there was no fishing for me! so I drove the 2 1/2 hours and went deep sea fishing just to wet a line... it was better than nothing... just keep plugging away and hope you get a new place that has better bass fishing prospects..
