I'm getting ready to talk to these guys about a management position at the new Bass Pro Shops down the road, I recall some of the members here have worked or still work for these guys and would like some feedback on how they are as an employer. Thanks in advance.

Although I have not worked for BPS I would think it would be better than such industries as the food industry.

You would be great at BPS because you know fishing and other stuff and you have been a manager dealing with people, if you call your staff people and the public people andyou are a very nice person.

I would vote for you to work at BPS because I can then see you more often than driving to Never-Never Land way out on 360 and maybe we can go fishing again and I can put another treble hook through my finger.

So I vote "yes" for the Southern Prog to work at BPS.

The hours will be easier and the only critters you will have to feed are in the fish tank!!!!

Give me a call when you can.

Haha......yeah, the critters I deal with now would be gone. I appreciate the comments Sam. It;d be cool to get together and fish again sometime. I've lost my papers with everyone's phone numbers so why don't you PM me and I'll get in touch.

They would be stupid to hire me, I spend all day there as it is :-[

I have some friends that work there, you get a deal on tackle, I think 20 % or something like that. i have never heard anything negative.

One of the guys in my club works at BPS. He said the 40% discount on BPS tackle is great but he also said that it is very hard to get vacation time and that he has to work on holidays. Ironically he said that BPS has actually sucked up more of his fishing time than any other place he has ever worked at!

I work at BPS one day a week. I'm retired from the Navy and the post office and thought it may be fun. This is my first job in retail and it seems as though all I do is pick up after customers.

It isn't a bad place to work except the pay is low and the hours are long, etc.  In my case the discounts are the reason I continue work there. If you have specific questions let me know...........Al

Thanks for the replys guys. I'm a manager for McDonalds...and I'm thinking it can't be much worse than that.

I would think that would be a cool job, talk fising all day long and get discounts on your fishing stuff. I believe by law you need to get your days off every week, at least one and you also have vacation time, you may not be able to get it during the holidays but you will get time off.

I worked at the Olathe, Kansas one before it was open for a few weeks.  I will echo the comments of the discounts being pretty good, but also plan on working holidays, including Thanksgiving Day, and all the other ones as well.

I quit because it was supposed to be a second job for me after my normal 40 hour/week job, and they were scheduling me 35-40 hours a week P/T, now granted the store was being prepared for opening, but if just couldn't handle TWO 40 hours/week jobs at the same time.

You might want to PM Senko77, I think he used to work at BPS as well, and if I remember right, he didn't have the greatest experience with the job either.

I don't want to be the rain on the parade, but my opinion is that they will work you as many hours as they can.  You will either do it or they will find someone who is willing to, they know there are hundreds of people that would love to work there so they are definitely not afraid of good employees quitting.

There certainly is some truth to this, but a lot depends on your manager. I have cut back to 1 day a week from about 35 hours. After a store opens management must explain to the corp headquaters if the turnover is to high. But they do not mind one bit if someone quits. I am told that is the way of retail sales. This is my first and last experience in that field.......................Al

That's too darned funny!!  I spent about 20 years working in retail and every time I would get to feeling sorry for myself I could always say, "Well, at least it's not food service."

I am seriously thinking of working at the BPS that is about to open in Spanish Fort, AL

Nothing could be worse than the food industry. It  is truely amazing how rude and stupid most people are, it is also quite depressing. In case you do not know, NEVER make your server mad.  ;D

I'm trying to join the Baton Rouge Fire Department and I'll be looking for a second job.  A BPS just opened up near Baton Rouge and I might go there.  I could use the discount and I don't mind working retail.  It doesn't even have to be the fishing section.  Guns, camo, kayaks...doesn't matter to me.  From what I understand, they pay pretty decent for retail work.

I worked at Bass Pro.  I will never work there again.

Terrible hours and terrible treatment to there employees.  Why should they treat you good?  They have 7000 people lined up behind you that want your job.  Who cares about customer service.  For every customer they lose, 2 more take there place.

I hate Bass Pro Shops and refuse to shop there.  Support mom and pop stores that actually care about customer satisfaction.
