So our county has put us under strict water restrictions for the past year if not longer.  I guess we saved so much water that the water company now has a surplus and hasn't profited.  Instead of laying people off, they decided to increase the price of water consumed by consumers.  Several people in my neighborhood got a $100 water bill this month when their average was 35-45 $.   Our electric company was also just approved to a 16% increase.

When will this shi* end? I think the world (lifestyle) as we know it is coming to an end and different lifestyles are are going to occur.

Certain fixed costs must be covered by utilities )and most other companies)  It is NOT in the consumer's best interest to conserve.

Same thing is going to happen with electricity.  When revenue is down

you have 2 choices. 1) sell more  2) raise prices.  You could cut expenses but you can only cut so far.  BOHICA!

It is a catch 22 situation.  It happened here in Atlanta, as well... all we have heard for a year, is conserve, we are in a drought.  Everyone obliged, now they are raising water and sewer pricing, due to the fact they are now losing money....

Make up my mind.. you want us to use the water or not!!!!!!! >:(

Oh, and Lake Lanier will be 15 ft. below full pool sometime this month... only 2 public docks are accessible for the entire lake now, out of 30 something.

Reliant Energy here in Houston has been adjusting prices for years. Every May they raise the price per kilowatt and then lower it in October. My electric bills average over 400.00 a month for the July-September time frame. My home is not total electric either.

In order to change it everyone NEEDS TO VOTE!!  And Vote AGAINST anyone who is currently in office no matter what.  Right now there is no one who is being held responsible for these increases.

Who's problem is it when the prices get raised?  Ours.  There is no one person who can be fired or that you can complain to for change. No one else gets in trouble for raising our rates like that.

The only answer is to MAKE someone responsible.  And I am not just talking about mayors or goveners.  How many people here vote in local congressionals?  Or for Local county elections?  Write a letter and vote against anyone currently in office.  And follow through on it.  I bet there will be change in no time at all.

Of course they will say "the increase in rates is not our fault or under our control".  But if we hold them responsible then it becomes their problem also.  Utilities increases such as these usually require local government approval anyways.

Of course this probably wont happen.  Many dont think voting makes any difference.  But is the local election that matter most.  even still, people have short memories and usually forget about things like this during election time.  Or they cant stomach to vote for the opposite party. So in the meantime we get stuck with the bill... again and again.

I'm tired of it also, I've been a member of this for awhile http://www.backwoodshome.com/index.html, some awsome stuff in there thats very practicle 8-)

I recently have been setting up for my own water.

its not set up to stay away from "THE MAN" its practicle saving, canning, gardening certain foods and raising your own meat. Chickens eggs, pigs.  Then it has tips and strategies for solar or battery power units, water tech, raising mushrooms for extra money all the way to worm farming.

I've been burning wood only for the last 5 years for heat, my heat bill for the whole winter has been $140 to $165 bucks.

anything helps out now-a-days.

100 water bill???? Thats nothing.  I've had $400.00+ in the summer.  If I don't irrigate my bill is 25-45 dollars.  Water must be considerablly higher in TX.

I gues im lucky. My mom pays $120 to the neighboorhood thing and it covers lawn, power possibly,Il have to ask, and water. Home gas stuff is all we have to pay for and we have to do some house repairs.

Were I live the summer water bill is is split among all the people. They take all the meters readings and tell you they need 300+ dollers. So becasue 90% of the poeple water the lawns all summer we have to pay for it. My buddy just moved over here and he wasnt happy when I told him that.

The cost of treating and delivering that water is increasing.  Think that $4/gal. gas is just hurting you?

If the cost of treatment/delivery increases, that increase must be passed on to the customers.

I know.  I hate those pesky people that have pride in ownership and care about protecting their investment by maintaining property values.   ::)

I don't think its neccesarily fair that the water bill is split and your forced to pay regardless of your usage, but I also think its your duty to check into this prior to moving.  So unless someone held a gun to your head to get you to move there, shame on you.

Well it never use to be like that around here. That was intill the the city made people get rid of there wells or face fines. But iam living with the grandparents so there paying the bills. Becasue of that and a few other things I cant wait to get out of this city.

I've never heard of a city that doesn't meter each home. How in the he11 could they get that passed without some serious city council ramifications. I assumed you were talking about a community on a community well or something. What city do you live in????

Nevermind I missed it below your avatar.

Well thats not the city I live in. I live in a differnt city. Snice we don't have a post office we don't have a zip. But I live in krownwetter I think thats how you spell it. As for the wells they were privite wells. The city also has meters on each of the houses. They have replaced my grandparents one 3 times in the last 5 years. Plus every one on the board to the police is a bad seed. We have had two cheifs of police in the the last 3 years of the police being started. The board had gone through at least three leaders. There not steping down becasue of famliy things or health. You can read abou the bad things you do in the paper. As for this stuff flying there all polish. So there family. ITs like the blind leading the blind. Iam sorry if theres any polish peopel reading this.

I just thank God I didn't have to hook up on sorry county water when I put my house in a while back.  It did cost me $6000 to drill the well (400+ ft) but it would have cost more than that just to get a line to the road where you hook up on the county water (2000+ ft).   So you could add a monthly bill of $15-$20 on top of whatever it would have cost to hook up on the county water.

Gotta love living in the country.
