Had one hell of an interesting evening.

Took the old man kokanee fishing for fathers day mon-wed. Had a great trip, though fishing was a little slow. At any rate we still got him some of his favorite tasty little salmon. When we would catch them, we were just throwing them on ice in my livewell. When we got home, I realized that I had left the plug in the well leavinga few gallons of fish water. No big deal, pulled the plug and left the lid open.

Fast forward two days. Those two days featured temperatures above 100*. Bloody hot. I kept getting this funky a** smell wafting in occasionally. Can't figure out what it is. While I was outside getting something from my truck, I notice my livewell plug has fallen off the gunwale of the boat and onto the driveway. I usually just keep it in the box. Lean over the boat and realize the lid is down on the livewell.... i had left it up. Open said, lid and I am punched in the nose by the nastiest decaying funk you have ever smelled. Commence gagging. Continue dry heaving. Evacuate the area. Locate lure painting respirator. Return to the scene. Examine the carnage. . . . My future step-mother's kitty.

Apparently it had climbed into my open, aluminum livewell smelling of fish, bumped the hold open latch, closed the lid. Sat inside a little aluminum box, in direct sunlight, 100+ degrees for potentially 2 full days.

How horrible is that!? I mean, I do not like cats, and I would have no compunctions about killing one quickly and humanely, but this is just toooo freaking gnarly. I told my dad's fiance that it most likely suffocated immediately, but with no plug and the overflow, it was probably the oven effect that did it in. So sad.

So kids, don't leave your livewell open. In addition to the horrific death  of a pet, you will have one HELL of a nasty clean up in your future.

Gnarly.

Holding my side from laughing so hard.  Sorry about the kitty.  Just laughing at you describing the gagging effect.  Had a Steve-O flashback thinking of this.  Crazy stuff dude.

I had a mess similar one time.  The deep freeze in the garage of the house I used to live in got unplugged accidentally before I went on vacation a few years back.  A whole week of 90+ heat.  The freezer had two whole deer in it.  You can imagine the gagging that went on from that circus.

OMG, it's in the air east and west. I had a similar story tonight Jay. Teria and I come home and as I walk by my boat I here a faint meow. I turn the lights on and find that one of the kittens had got into my boat. I had left all the compartments open for the lids to drain (got caught in the rain yesterday). I find her in the rod box and in a bad situation. She got into a Bandit 700. Three for three of the front hooks in her mouth and jaw and one of the rear hooks in her hind leg. Poor thing. I cut the lines and get her out. Take her in the house. Thank god she had pulled all of the barbs on through! I took some cutters and after some struggle finally de-hooked the kitty. She's pretty soar but she should be alright....I think.

Sorry to hear about the cat.  I feel terrible, but while reading the end, I couldn't stop thinking about the part in Mr. Deeds where he saves the woman and her cats with the dude in the background yelling, "cat killer, cat killer!!"

Crazy stuff dude

Do not mean to sound flippant, but that part about you heaving was funny as Heck.....

The whole scenario reminds me of a time when I was a kid.  We had a cookout, my dad believed in charcoal grills,,, no gas for him.  He had grilled chicken and steaks, and then left the lid up to cool the grill, and to speed the briquets burning down.

One of the many barn cats we had, could not resist the smell of chicken and steak.  Jumped up on the grill, and the lid fell down, trapping the cat, on the hot grill.....  Lucky for her, we heard the commotion and she only had overdown feet  :o :o

You have got one heck of a memory.  LMAO, I was kidding about cats for shark bait.  They were baby ducks.  Ducklings stay afloat longer.
