MattStrykul Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I have mono. Yes, the kissing disease> Not only did I have mono, but I had a double infection, strep throat too. Thank god it's gone. Has anyone had mono before? I know I can't do any physical activities for a month which is really inconvenient because I'm in the car now for a week long trip to Gaston to wakeboard and fish. Now I'll just be fishing all week which is good enough for me. Anyways, I know there is no cure, but what were peoples symptoms? Did you have any other side effects or anything? Thanks Matt Strykul Quote
xboxfisherman Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I had mono my senior year of high school. I was down for almost a month. I couldn't do anything. So tired. Any sort of simple activity required a two hour nap to recover. Lost like 15 lbs because I couldn't keep any food down. Good luck trying to wake board. I'd recommend staying home and resting over anything. Just push fluids and rest and you'll get over it. You are stuck with it the rest of your life but you won't ever have it again. Kinda like chicken pox. Interesting that you had strep too. Mine was initially diagnosed as strep. The antibiotic that they gave me reacted to the mono and I broke out in hives all over my body. Super User fishfordollars Posted June 23, 2008 Super User Posted June 23, 2008 Matt, I had it my senior year in HS. Remember being tired a lot. Good luck Quote
slomoe Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I got mono last year. It sux! I had no idea what was going on, it took three visits to the doctor for them to finally figure out what was wrong. The first one was like..."you got a cold go take some advil" The second one was like....."uhhh, heres some vicoden" The third and final (my usuall doctor) visit she felt my liver and could tell it was abnormal, so she gave me a blood test. I have never been sick for so long before. The first morning I was so sore I thought I had been bitten by a zombie. Anyway, just be carefull around your stomach area, Its very easy to rupture your liver while sick with mono. Hope you feel better soon. P.S. I'll be responding to your pm when I get off work. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I also got it my senior year in HS. I lost about 25 lbs over a week. About 3 days after feeling better from the mono I got Strep Thoat and was down for another 4 days. I was playing basketball at the time and I ended up having to quit sports until baseball season started. It was the worst week of my life having mono. I do remember being really tired during school. To the point where I had to sleep or I would fall out. Quote
MattStrykul Posted June 23, 2008 Author Posted June 23, 2008 I must not have gotten it kissing because my girlfriend doesn't have it....yet... Funny thing, all you guys had it Senior year, I'm going to be a senior this year ;D. I'm at the lake now, definetly not gonna wakeboard. I'm not too tired, everyone said how tired you get, but honestly I feel fine. I feel like I don't have mono but they did a blood test and everything last night. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted June 23, 2008 Super User Posted June 23, 2008 Your tallywhacker is gonna fall off. Just kidding dude. I bet your girlfriend is hammering you with questions like "I know you've been cheating" "who have you been kissing" "I knew you didn't love me " Quote

I bet your girlfriend is hammering you with questions like "I know you've been cheating" "who have you been kissing" "I knew you didn't love me " Hahahaha nah, not yet she's not. All she has said is "If I get mono I'm gonna @#&$*%@ kill you!" I really think she's gonna get it though :-[ Oh well. You guys that had it, did it ever get worse? After you were sick for the week or however long it was did you progressively get tired? I really only have a little bit of fatigue and supposedly it should be extreme. Anybody? Quote
daviscw Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 I had it last semester in college. (Beer pong will do it!) I didn't lose weight and I never even felt bad, but I could never keep my eyes open. People always asked me if I was tired, and I was! I went to the doctor, the mono test was positive, and that was that. They couldn't do anything. Good luck! Rest, rest, rest! Quote
MattStrykul Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 I really hope I don't lose any weight. My step dad said he lost 40 lbs when he had it (also senior year). I have no weight to be lost . I guess I'll start resting up, maybe with all the sleep I'll be getting I'll grow a little bit ;D Quote

Super User Gone_Phishin Posted June 24, 2008 Super User Posted June 24, 2008 I had mono in middle school. I remember being very sensitive to light, even in the house. If I was in a room that did not have a dimmer switch, I had to wear sunglasses. I don't remember much else about it except for the fatigue, though I can't recall how long it took to get tired. I just remember it sucked. Our youth group at church had a lock-in a bit before that at the Y. A bunch of us were sharing sodas. I got it from someone there. Quote
AnglerNFuego Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Matt, I hope you get better soon. Also, most people get mono from sharing drinks so that's probably how you got since it wasn't from kissing your girl. Quote
MattStrykul Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 Thanks anglernfuego. I actually feel fine right now. I'm not even a bit tired. I wakeboarded a little bit yesterday and just took it easy. Now that I think about it, I was feeling really tired, and sick like 3 weeks ago. I mean REALLY tired, like I almost had my brother drive home from a pond because I thought I was gonna fall asleep ;D It was everyday too, I would just have no energy to do anything and I would have body aches and and I would just wanna sleep. Could I have had it 3 weeks ago and now I'm at the end of it?? :-? Quote

Mine was about gone by the time I had it diagnosed, but sometimes if I played ball really hard or was really active I would tire quick for about a month after. Quote
MattStrykul Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 Yeah! I really think I'm about over it. I just got in again from wakeboarding, not tired, not hurting, nothing. It scares me a little to think that back when I had it I could have ruptured my spleen. Oh well, I'm wakeboarding and just doin my thing this week. Go big or go home ;D (Fishing too) We've been fishing up at 5:00 am every morning, and that hasn't even made me tired. I have to be over this. Quote
