Super User FishTank Posted June 23, 2008 Super User Posted June 23, 2008 From time to time a book comes along that changes the way you look at the world, who we are, and how we live our lives. Several years I ago I read such a book and I have recently found it once again. It is called "Cry, the Beloved Country." It was written in 1948 and is centered around life at that time in South Africa. If you like to read and have the time, I would highly recommend giving this book a chance. Here is a small piece of it. Cry, the beloved country, for the unborn child that is the inheritor of our fear. Let him not love the earth too deeply. Let him not laugh too gladly when the water runs through his fingers, nor stand too silent when the setting sun makes red the veld with fire. Let him not be too moved when the birds of his land are singing, nor give too much of his heart to a mountain or a valley. For fear will rob him of all if he gives too much. Quote
frogtog Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Sounds interesting. I guess I will have to get it. Quote
cpvenom Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I have also read this book and found it very insightful. It really puts things in perspective and makes you think... Quote
